Piagets theory of cognitive development will have a significant influence on my teaching practice with the understanding of how children process information for comprehension. Piaget highlights key stages of learning based on intellectual growth. Understanding these stages and identifying what stage my students are at, will be integral to my teaching and allow me to implement some of his suggested methods to plan and deliver impactful learning experiences through assimilation, accomodation and equilibration.

Both Piaget and Vygotskys theorys have the common goal of fostering a holistic teaching environment that ensures every child feels included and supported. Although through different approaches to teaching, both Piaget and Vygotsky emphaises the importance of social interaction to develop and strengthen cognitive development. In a diverse classroom setting, a holistic approach caters for all children.
