parvana and her family are living in afghanistan. her parents are one of the lucky ones that can read and write, but the talibans dont want them to talk about the things they studied.

they were a rich family, but becuase of the talibans, they had to keep moving becuase their house were bombed, resulting in them losing more and more stuff, so they end up living in a smaller and smaller house each time.

Her mother fell on the toshak and cried, she does this for the whole chapter. Food and water was out and it was Parvana's job to get more. Nooria looks after her mother and the little children looks hungry and they haven't seen a ray of sunshine for a long time.
