One of the plants we discovered on the mission was the bearberry. The bearberry itself is red and is in the shape of an oval. It looks like a smaller version of a tomato. It grows on a bush plant and not on a tree. A good thing about the bearberries is that they are tasteless. I think this is a good quality of the bearberries because anybody could eat them because they don’t taste like anything. This means it could help us with food supply.

Animal #1
One of the animals that we discovered is called a wolf. It had short legs and had fur that varies from white to brown. It has very sharp teeth and ears that are big. They’re like a dog, but more fierce. When attacking they liked to follow what they were trying to catch. I think this could help us because we would be able to get a certain type of animal out of a place by sending in these wolves. The wolves seem to be not endangered because of how many there were when traveling to the Pacific Ocean. 

Plant #2
Another plant we discovered on the mission was the buffalo berries. They’re red in color and are an oval in shape. The buffalo berries look like a red grape. They grow in punches and not just one. One the actual plant there is a thorn that you have to be careful of when obtaining the buffalo berries. Another good thing about the berries is that you can make a delicious tart out of them. I think this is a good quality because it shows the buffalo berries can have more than one purpose. These can help us because they can make delicious food and help supply us with food we don’t have to catch.

Animal #2
Another animal we discovered on the trip was the salmon. It varies in color from green to black. These fish were strong as they were able to swim up current and make 15 foot dives. They have a fishtail on the back of it and fins on the side and bottom. Also they have gills to be able to breath. Another thing is that they’re in great supply and aren’t an endangered species. I think this animal can help us because you can cook 2-3 easily in a pan at a time. Also these salmon reproduce quickly, making them a great food source.

Relative Location: It’s east of the Mississippi River. It’s South of St. Louis. 
Place: It’s in a continental climate. Some of the landforms nearby are rivers and plains. 
Region: The area before they came was controlled by the French and was first inhabited by Native Americans. The economic advantage of the location was that it was next to the Mississippi River, so access to trading was easy.


The Cahokia Courthouse was used from the WInter of 1804 into the spring of 1805. It served as a headquarters for Lewis and Clark during that time on their expedition. Examples of things that they did in the Cahokia Courthouse were gathering supplies, communicating with Jefferson, and meeting with territorial leaders. They also made gifts for tribe leaders to make sure an enemy would not emerge within the local tribes. Another important thing they did here was plan the rest of the expedition. They arrived at the courthouse before the expedition had started. I think this is probably the most important thing they did here because when they planned the rest of the expedition they knew when stuff needed to get done in order to survive.

Relative Location: It’s located East of the Pacific Ocean and it’s located to the northwest or Portland. Also it’s located South of Youngs Bay and North of Melville. 
Place: It’s located in a Medditeranean Climate. Landforms nearby are mountains and the sea. 
Region: The economic advantage point of the site is that it’s located next to an ocean. This allows for easy food access and being able to trade by going on the Pacific Ocean.

Fort Clatsop was used during the winter of 1805 and the start of 1805. The fort was used as their winter headquarters. It was constructed during December of 1805 and was drawn up by Clark. The plan was to have two parallel cabins facing each other enclosed in fences with a gate at the center. On December 13, the design was altered even though they had already started to build the cabins. The fort was finally completed on January 1, 1806. They would end up departing from the fort on March 23, 1806.
