When teachers are caring, respectful, fair, responsive, prepared, and excited about the learning, kids know it!

I wonder if students' sense that there is less support and more rules is related to schools transitioning from an SEL and community building focus when we first returned after covid to now trying to compensate from the learning loss and focusing on academics.

In regards to students feeling that rules are fair or unfair, I'd be curious to know what various students think is unfair. This is nuanced & our opinions have everything to do with our perspective.

Example - our discussion at this meeting about a particular first grader. It may seem unfair to direct this student out of our rooms & lock the door, but there is a reason adults are doing this - to support a student. Students at this point in their development cannot always see the reasons for rules from another viewpoint, such as that of teachers & staff.
