Heyyy you! I'm Calen, a 21 year-old PTT student, living + studying + working in Mackay. I always loved school, and after working some pretty brain dead jobs I decided to jump back into my studies and pursue teaching. BEST THING I'VE EVER DONE. I have a deep love for education and love that you can develop relationships with students and families within may community. My hobbies are jogging and exploring the outdoors, ultimately one of the reasons why I ventured down this career path. In the long run, I want to be flexible, travelling around Australia while relief teaching, getting to see the world while making a difference in it :)

I cannot wait to see how digital technologies can help transition my current classroom (as a PTT) into an engaging, fun and resourceful way of learning. I am currently located at a Primary School, but am aiming to slowly ease into a secondary school to teach English and Humanities (Teenagers are much easier to deal with then the little ones!!)

Canva is a free, intuitive digital design platform that allows students to create and publish a wide range of visual and multimodal texts. With access to a vast library of templates, images, graphics, and text formatting tools, students can design presentations, posters, infographics, and more. Canva supports creativity and collaboration while helping students develop key skills in visual literacy, communication, and digital storytelling. It is especially useful for enhancing understanding of audience, purpose, and layout—essential elements in both English and Humanities contexts.

I believe this is one of the most resourceful digital tools to date, that can be utilised within any learning environment or from home! The possibilities are endless, with the layout of this tool being easy to navigate and the templates helping kick start lessons + learning tasks :) This tool will foster engaging, effective and fun learning inside and out the classroom. It will be an invaluable ICT used to structure and plan English and Humanities lessons, whilst exploring creative aspects.

It was developed by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) following a comprehensive review in 2020–2021, incorporating feedback from educators, parents, and the public. AC v9.0 maintains a three-dimensional structure comprising:

Queensland Curriculum Assessment & Authority (QCAA)

The Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA) is the body responsible for curriculum assessment, development and certification in Queensland, Australia. When I was in my last years of school, I was paranoid of QCAA, how it marked my work and collected data (I now realise it’s not as scary as it sounded). Throughout my studies I have developed a deep understanding in the vital roles of the QCCA which include:

1. Developing and implementing curriculum from prep to year 12 for all Queensland schools

2. Oversees senior assessment and certification, including the Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE)

3. Manages external assessments and provides guidelines for internal assessments in senior schooling.

4. Supports teachers and schools by providing professional development, resources, and moderation processes to ensure consistency and fairness in assessment.

5. Collects and analyses data to inform educational improvement and reporting

Education Perfect was a digital tool I interacted with during my senior school years (year 7-10), which was an amazing digital learning platform that supports teaching and learning across subjects including English, Maths, Science and Humanities. I believe EP is an invaluable digital tool that engages students through their learning resources including, interactive quizzes, videos, readings, structure breakdowns and auto marked tasks. This ICT provides immediate constructive feedback to students and tracks data, which can assign differentiated tasks to cater for diverse learners. Additionally, teachers can monitor and track their students progress, support remote learning and enhance digital literacy. Overall, Education Perfect is aligns with ICT General Capabilities, helping students create, access and communicate ideas and opinions digitally. Standard 6.2 and 7.4 of the Australian Professional Teaching Standards (AITSL) are reflected within this tool as it collaboratively expands student engagement, learning and opportunities on a digital scale.

This is a digital resource I had seen from another peers Padlet, similar to Kahoot, Mentimeter is an interactive presentation tool that lets teachers create live polls, quizzes, and Q&As to engage students, assess understanding, and encourage participation using real-time digital feedback. Warming up or finishing lessons with these unique and engaging learning activities will allow students to retain information in a fun and resourceful way.
