Realizing that every student is their own person with their own opinions, values and experiences is really important. Oftentimes students are compared to fellow classmates, family members or other individuals. As a teacher, I will continuously self-reflect to assess if I have any unconscious bias or if I am projecting onto any students a reflection that is not themselves. Understanding that every student is unique also reflects in providing for different learning styles, modifications for English learners, and having accessibility for everyone.

I believe that teachers must always be growing. Growing in their knowledge, skills and learning from their students as well. Teachers can not stay stagnant but must always try to improve themselves in any way they can. Using constructive criticism, self-reflection and research, I will try to always be open to new ideas and practices.

1) Be Respectful
2) Be an Active Listener
3) Allow Others to Speak
5) Do Your Best!

Being respectful to one another in the classroom includes accepting the diversity that is presented within the classroom. Every student is unique. Every student has to understand this in order to accept their peers and form positive relationships with one another.

Being an active listener means to actually consider the words of your classmates. When conflict arises, instead of confiding yourself to your own view, students and teachers should try to understand the perspective of the other person. An active listener can also tries to ask questions to clarify any misunderstandings which can help when solving conflicts.

Allowing others to speak is also important. Just because students who are shy or quiet may not speak often does not mean that they have nothing to say. We need to create space for everyone to speak their thoughts and participate in discussion.

Finally, both students and teachers should do their best in their tasks, interacting with one another and following the rules above.
