"I was hungry." Jeanette burst this out because her mother was clearly upset that her kids ate the only thing left to eat. The kids have no set of rules other than to come home when the streetlights incend. Except along the way that doesn't always seem to be the case. Once she is 18, Maureen's life goes downhill. She then later gets sentenced to a hospital, when she leaves she moves away to the west coast; Jeannette apologizes from the sidelines during Maureen's departure.
