From this picture you can see the average temperatures and average rain for every month in Nuuk. The reason the temperature only changes by around 17oC is because Nuuk is on the coast. This means that it does not get ´very´ warm or ´very´ cold. This is because the sea acts as a ´heat-sink´ meaning it absorbs heat in summer, keeping the city cool, and gives off heat in winter, keeping the city warm. Nuuk can be described as a being in a Tundra / Arctic Climate, This means summers are short (in some places in the north there is no summer ;)). and winters can be long and very harsh. Because it is so far north, and so cold there are no trees in nuuk.

Winter times can be tough for people in nuuk, especially due to the lack of sunlight. This affects the brain production of serotonin, people feel sleepy, ´sluggish´ and feel the need to eat more. Some people (including me), use SAD lights (Seasonal Affective Dissorder artificial lights)as a substitute for real light... for me it does help :). these can sometimes be found around the town, schools and other public places

It is kind of see through, but this may be beause the microscope light is so strong.

Raven (Tulugaq in Greenlandic). These are quite common in nuuk. Also known as Odin´s companion :). It is a smallish bird that has black, glossy feathers. It makes a distinctive cawing noise and is know for being one of the more intelligent birds. It eats small rodents, insects and whatever it can feed from that humans have left out. They are predators, prey and scavengers. In greenland people do hunt these animals. They are also hunted by bigger animals such as cats. They can live upto 15 years

This is the leaf of a crowberry, it is about 5cm tall with many pointy leaves on the stem about 5mm long. The berrys have died due to the cold now, but in the summer months they are all over the landscape. People here use them to make jam and add them to drinks, make alcohol, eat them raw and cookies. Pretty much all animals from birds to deer eat them and their leaves.

In part due to Global Warming, dog-sleighing, while culturally important to greenland, seems to be dying. There is less snow or ice on the ground, and because of proliferation of snowmobiles, less people learn or have the inclanation to use dogs. Indeed the amount of of the year dog-seighing can be used is less, and any tournaments or activities have to take place more and more north.
