Women were expected to concentrate on household chores and childrearing while men were more likely to work outside the home in factories or offices. The expectations of society have been shaped by this division of labour.

Gender roles and cultural expectations: For a long time in many civilizations, men were expected to conform to traditional gender name .Economic and legal considerations: In the past, a lot of nations had economic structures that restricted women's access to job, education, and property ownership. Laws preventing married women from working or owning property, for example, furthered the notion that men are the primary wage earners. These elements produced a socioeconomic setting that supported the idea of the male breadwinner.
The post-World War II family model: In many Western nations, traditional gender roles were reinstated in the mid-20th century following the end of the war.
