It would be one thing if Gregor hadn't been so dramatically dehumanized. Outside of the initial shock, Gregor's death hardly impacted them at all. This comes to a head when his father says to "stop brooding over the past" (Kafka 1.) They hardly saw him as a person in the end, much less a family member in the end. None of the characters even cry or show true vulnerability outside a blank stare. When referencing the sister at the end, the parents suggest marrying her off.
