Being active is good for mental health. Mental Health is very important and sometimes we can feel very overwhelmed with everything. Something to do to improve mental health is to be active or go outside for a walk, play sports, or go to the gym. These things can take our mind off stuff that we are sad about and distract oursleves from it. I used this mental health when I am overwhelmed with things such as school I go outside and workout or play sports with my freinds

Theres so many mental health practices that could help with mentally ill people. I picked exercise due to experience of being able to let out my stress reducing and keeping my mind off of something stressful. Also it can help with improving a negative mood by working out and making yourself feel better and productive. I will use this practice before and after break, I already workout daily and it makes me happier and it keeps me active and away from something stressful. Even better to exercise with friends for laughter and to make you smile for once. Using any practice can really help anyone with mental health.

A mental health practice I use on a daily basis is listening to music it is very basic, but nothing it better than just sitting back or laying down or even walking somewhere and playing music, music calming, relaxing and can make you relate to the song or type of music your listening too, and for some it can be an outlet to let out or express emotions in your head or by singing, music is an amazing form of mental health practice, and there are so many music genres to pick from and from each 100's of genres there's 1,000's of artists and 1,000,000's of songs to listen too and pick from, for whatever mood your feelings at that moment. A way I use music as a mental health practice is listening to it in classes, when out with friends or going to sleep.

Music listeners had higher scores for mental well-being and slightly reduced levels of anxiety and depression compared to people overall. - Harvard

During break I will still listen to music and I will also listen to music after

Yoga can help to better your mental health by boosting your mood. Gam aminobutyric acid, which is involved with better mood and lesser anxiety, can be produced much more through yoga. You can find other ways to boost your mental health, but yoga has been proven to provide long lasting effects. Using meditation, it can help with stressful situations, it calms the part of the brain that involves emotions. Just doing fifteen minutes of yoga everyday can enlighten your mood and can improve your mental health over a long period of time.

Playing Sports helps manage stress. Exercising causes your body to release endorphins, the chemicals in your brain that relieve pain and stress. It also reduces the levels of stress hormones, cortisol and adrenaline. Studies have shown that 20 to 30 minutes of exercise each day can make people feel calmer. Kids often struggle with self-esteem, and team sports can help them feel like an important part of something bigger than themselves. A study was made and it showed that adolescents that showed greater sports participation in school were more protected from depression symptoms over four years later.

How I plan to use this exercise going into break and after is playing basketball everyday.

My positive mental health strategy is about the joys of taking breaks. Breaks are often overlooked as unimportant, especially when somebody is very busy. But they can in fact greatly increase productivity in people, even when used in very small amounts. Several websites claim that a short break of five or so minutes can be a worthy investment, speeding up overall productivity enough to counteract the lost time and then some. I agree with this statement, I've found similar things. As well as this, a study by top scientists Korpela and Kinnunen found that "taking lunchtime breaks and detaching from work increases levels of energy and decreases exhaustion."

I intend to use this extensively over thanksgiving. I have a lot of work to do, a lot of traveling to finish, but I will make very much sure that I have a day to myself. I will do this though hourly scheduling and force of will.

Playing sports is one thing you can do to enhance your mental health. When you play a sport, your body will release endorphins, which help relieve stress and pain. After 20-30 minutes of exercise, you will feel calmer for hours, leaving a positive affect on your mental health. Also, when you concentrate on a sport it will take your mind off the things you are stressing about and will therefore make you feel more relaxed. Group sports especially can boost your mood because you are having fun with your friends.
Over break, I am going to try to enhance my mental health by playing sports or exercising. Since I can't play on a travel team right now because of my injury, I will train in my yard for 20-30 minutes a day. Also, to help myself recover faster, I will do my physical therapy exercises daily. These activities will help me relieve stress and be in a better mood.
https://www.webmd.com/mental-health/benefits-of-sports-for-mental-health

One practice that has been known to better your mental health is exercise. Exercise improves mental health by reducing anxiety, depression, and negative mood and by improving self-esteem. Exercise reduces anxiety by relieving tension and stress and boosts your physical and mental energy. I read on Helpguide.org that if you try to notice the sensation of your feet hitting the ground, for example, or the rhythm of your breathing, or the feeling of the wind on your skin like when exercising you’ll not only improve your physical condition faster, but you may also be able to interrupt the flow of constant worries running through your head. Another kind of mental health that exercises reduces is depression. A recent study done by the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health found that running for 15 minutes a day or walking for an hour reduces the risk of major depression by 26%. One way I am going to use exercise to improve my mental health this break is to try and practice soccer and lacrosse outside every day because I don't have any practice during break.

Reading provides a large amount of mental health benefits. First, it helps to improve mental flexibility. When you read, you're forced to see situations from perspectives outside your own which challenges the mind and opens us to new interpretations. Having mental flexibility helps with problem solving skills and can make behavioral changes and habit-breaking easier to achieve. Secondly, reading can help to reduce stress after just thirty minutes. It can be therapeutic to get lost in books, allowing you to escape your own mind and live another life for a short time. Finally, reading enhances brain activity. Research proves that reading stories can impact the brain in both psychological and neurological ways. "According to a study, the brains of participants were scanned before, during and after reading a fiction book. The result showed that there were significant neurological changes in the brain’s resting state after the participants had finished reading the book". During break I am going to try and read more.

This mental health practice enhances someone's mental health because it helps the feeling of being overwhelmed, hopeless, and exhausted, which can in the end, result in decreasing mental illness. It improves energy, sleep, memory, and is proven to improve self esteem. It also has health benefits such as reducing cholesterol and improving cardiovascular disease. It can give a sense of pride and satisfaction. Exercise also promotes brain plasticity by stimulating growth of new connections between cells in many important cortical areas of the brain. It increases heart rate which pumps more oxygen to the brain. It aids the release of hormones which provide an excellent environment for the growth of brain cells. Those same hormones release endorphins, which make you feel better. It improves your cognitive health which helps you think, learn, problem-solve, and enjoy an emotional balance. It can improve memory and reduce anxiety or depression. I am going to incorporate this more into/ over break because I will probably have a good amount of time to start the habit.

Listening to music can help improve an individual's mental health, depending on the music they are listening to. According to the University of Nevada website listening to "a slower tempo can quiet your mind and relax your muscles...music is effective for relaxation and stress management." When feeling stressed you can listen to slower paced and softer songs which can help you feel "relaxed and conscious." During the break I can use this practice when I am feeling stressed about various homework assignments and projects I have. I can also listen to fast paced music to "feel more alert and concentrate better" according to the article.
https://www.unr.edu/counseling/virtual-relaxation-room/releasing-stress-through-the-power-of-music

Spending time with nature can be viewed as a stress relieving and joy bringing mental health practice. Exposure to the vibrant colors of plants and the feel of fresh air bring a calm sense of happiness to a person. Research on a group of 900,000 people found that those with the lowest levels of green space exposure during childhood, had a 55% higher risk of developing mental illness than for those who grew up with abundant green space. Actions outside such as hiking or taking a walk can boost your mood significantly in a positive direction. They can improve attention, lower stress, better mood, reduce the risk of psychiatric disorders, and even build empathy and cooperation.

I will be using this practice over and after break by having the change of seasons to lift my mood. I will be try to do more things outside and will spend time with my family outside.

When taking a break the first thing you think of shouldn't be your screens. Today, school and work involves a lot of us to be sitting at a computer, so when having the opportunity to take a break we should engage ourselves in something that gives us joy or comfort. Yes, watching a movie or scrolling through your phone might be something we enjoy but try and do something that is mentally healthy. For example, journaling, yoga, dancing, art, eating, etc.. Take breaks when you need a mind reset but make sure to use your break wisely and don't avoid your occupations.
Thanksgiving break will be a nice short while for me to reset. But, just because the word "Break" is in the name, doesn't mean I will forget my occupations. I will spend my time wisely by going on walks, sleeping in a little, etc. and I'm sure this break is going to be very beneficial for my own mental health.
https://www.architecturaldigest.com/story/take-a-break-mental-health-screen-time

<var>Videogames often have a lot of misconceptions that they have negative effects on the mind, and that they can be bad for your mental health, but it is the complete opposite. In most videogames you feel a sense of achievement when you have done something in the game that is difficult or hard to complete. Videogames have also been proved to have helped with disorders such as ADHD or PTSD, and they may help with other problems such as anxiety and depression. Of course any excessive use of anything is bad, same goes for videogames as it may lead to you being anti-social. Video games stimulate your brain keeping them active and alert at all times which I see as a pretty cool positive about playing videogames, along with increasing your reflexes and hand eye coordination.</var>

https://www.webmd.com/mental-health/mental-health-benefits-of-video-games#1-2

Swimming helps your mental health by the physical aspect, the social aspect, and the competition. The physicals aspect helps people improve their self image, in turn improving their metal health. Swimming is a high intensity workout, and it can be easily adjusted to each person since it is based off of effort. When you swim for a team or club, you meet other types of people that you might not usually talk to, helping you have fun with people, face to face. The competition also helps, because as long as it doesn't get toxic, competing with friends gives you a positive drive and when you win, you feel very good about yourself. I swim mostly every day, and since i did not swim during Covid, I can confirm that it helped my health overall.

I am not going to be able to swim over break since it is also a break for my swim team, but I will work out by my myself for swimming. This also is good or my mental health. After the break I have a big swim meet over the weekend that I have been working for.

My Mental health practice is exercising. I chose this practice because I can easily do it around the house and around my neighborhood. Exercise has been found to increase self esteem and cognitive function. It also decreases feeling of anxiety, depression, and Negative mood. exercise also helps by making a distraction, or a free space for you to think, outside of your problems. Scientists have found that 3 ten minute walks are just as helpful and fulfilling as 1 30 minute walk.

I am going to practice this by making a plan to go on a walk around old state road every day. I will plan on it being varied from 1-3 times a day. My plan is to get at least 3 hours of walking put into the break.

Cooking and baking are positive mental health practices. When you're cooking or baking you're setting a goal for yourself, and when you're done you feel like you've accomplished something, which can make you feel better. It can even be used to treat depression and anxiety, behavioral activation is a focus on increasing “the patient’s contact with sources of reward,” according to the Society of Clinical Psychology. It even can combat procrastination, since it uses positive, goal-oriented behavior. Cooking/ baking can also help you be more organized, healthier, and be more patient.

I am planning to cook and bake over Thanksgiving break, and every weekend, to relax and take my mind off homework and other things.

Sleeping helps you reset for the next day and Sleep research suggests that a teenager needs between eight and 10 hours of sleep every night, however most teenagers only get about 6.5-7.5 hours sleep per night. I will practice this by going to bed by 9pm and getting up at around 6-7am which is pertfectly in the average of what you should be getting.
