But no matter what resource it is, it can be very harmful for the environment. Usually people are taken advantage of and forced into exploiting these resources because they need money. They know it's harmful for the environment, but they are being forced to do so. Species have gone extinct this way, from over-harvesting, over-hunting, and over-fishing. - Dante Stokke

Exploiting those recourses that where listed could end up being bad, since if humans over exploit like fish, the fish population might drop alot leaving not enough prey for other fish.

When humans destroy/destruct, or take over a habitat for their own good. Destruction of a habitat due to humans can be from cutting down trees for houses, paper, and for fire wood. Or it can be from humans taking down everything in a habitat, the trees, the bushes, and even the soil by covering it up with concrete for sidewalks and asphalt for highways and streets. This causes less to no places for the animals that used to be living in that habitat to lose it, birds and squirrels would lose the living spaces that had in and on the tree. The birds would have less soil to find worms for food. Overall, to answer the question again. When humans destroy or take over a habitat is the main cause of loss of species.

The reason they are harmful and we just can't let the roam is because they destroy eco-systems. Most of the time if it is a invasive animal they will hunt animals from that new area, and most likely if nothing can kill it on the food chain they will just make more invasive animals which could kill that eco-system.

The state of Hawaii placed restrictions due to the fact that there is a loss of fish population. Catching larger fish is decreasing the amount of those fish in the ecosystem then increasing whatever prey they may have and throwing the entire ecosystem off balance and threatening the whole balance of all the ecosystems I Hawaii because a lot of land animals depend on fish as well. But in a normal ecosystem there tends to be a larger population of small fish due to birth rate and death rate so catching smaller fish instead of larger fish could keep the ecosystem healthy.-Lainey

The main causes of loss of species would be deforestation, pollution, agriculture, and overfishing. Deforestation can destroy a habitat, by taking away trees which would also decrease carbon dioxide as well. Pollution can contaminate land making it unhealthy. And agriculture can limit resources and the amount of land for living species. Finally overfishing can limit the amount of fish in the sea which would not only decrease the population, but will also affect other species food to be scarce.

Invasive species can be very harmful to an ecosystem, because they could disrupt the system that the ecosystem had already worked out on. For example, if an invasive species likes rabbits, and decides to feast on all of them at their new home. The animals who would eat the rabbit would have less food and would probably go to instinct. The rabbits would then be eaten to extinction, which would unfortunately get the plants to have an overgrown population. As you can see, invasive species can harm an ecosystem by disrupting the food web. Remember, even if one thing is taken out of the food web, the system will be destroyed.

The state of Hawaii places restrictions on the size of the fish that humans can harvest so that the fish do not go extinct due to population decline. This ensures that the fish population is not over fished causing fish species to go extinct. If a population of fish goes extinct this can cause the food chain to go out of balance, which is not good for the environment. If an organism is out of the food chain then other organisms who eat that species will have to depend on others food sources that may or may not be available and they could possibly die due to starvation.

Why does the state of Hawaii place restrictions on the size of fish that people catch? 1/4 - by Isabel Morales Rodriguez

I would think about why they restrict the size and how many people catch it because they don't want people fishing too much and they want to keep the animals safe. I believe their main goal is to keep the fish safe given a rule on how big it is and if they could keep it and how many because we don't want people carrying 2 full buckets of fish, too much of people getting fish may make the fish population go down by a lot. So we want to keep them stable and ensure that they are sustainable meaning that they are balanced and not one side higher than the other. Keeping fish safe and out of harm is amazing for the balance of the marine ecosystems. preventing over-fishing would be a lot of help so the animals that they are catching won't and hopefully don't become endangered. because if they do they may have already been extinct, due to human activity. Another reason why some fish may not be able to reproduce is if too many fish are caught and may destroy the population. Also the food web if one of them went extinct it will go wonky that you see more animals, for example bunnies are fast reproducers, and their predators making sure they won't go over the limit and if they do, they snatch one away or a few so it can keep it an balance area. the same goes for humans because they are technically predators for fishes in this case, over-fishing may cause some to be extinct. So this is why I think Hawaii did this restriction of the size of the fish and how many to catch.

What is the main cause of loss of species? 2/4 - by Isabel Morales Rodriguez

The main cause of loss of species would be all of these like deforestation, pollution, over-fishing, and agriculture as the main loss of biodiversity. Why? Because when you think of it all of these things created some really bad for the animals, for example if their was so much pollution even for us that would be bad, but just imagine how it feels for an animal. Deforestation or logging would be like copping down a bunch of wood, knowing that some animals live in those and you are getting rid of different types of habitats their are and even with agriculture because not only you are making more room for houses, buildings, and so much more, you are also affecting the animals around you .Deforestation not only limited the amount of habitats in that area but also gets rid of trees which gives us a decrease in carbon dioxide. Pollution as well, will make the air more unhealthy and contaminate it with the chemicals it is releasing, which is not only bad for us but also for the animals because it would affect other species if one where to die because of the things in the air. For over-fishing, like in ponds, lakes, rivers, and much more. if people who fish get a whole lot of them and keep coming to the same spot going at it, would decrease the type of fishes in that spot, for example lets say that you know on how in Hawaii they put a size restriction and also on how many you can catch and bring, which is really good. over-fishing a lot is going to affect the food chain because if one animal goes extinct or more it would technically become a war zone because it is unbalance, if that one animal went extinct,so now the food chain is different for some animals food or prays may become lower or higher then usual. Making it harder for them to survive .Lastly but not least is agriculture. Agriculture is when amounts of space are taken up to fit buildings, houses, and much more, but this would also increase the amount of animals that have lost their habitats, and the amount of animals who have been endanger by human activities. So in the end it makes not only a problem for us but also for the animals who are also living there being all around these bad things for them. So this is what I think is the main cause of the loss of species.

As the fish population would become smaller the fish would be for a higher demand than supply so the fish would be worth more. Thus making people want to go and fish for them because they are worth more money. That would happen until there was no fish left.

I think Hawaii restricts the sizes of fish people can catch to avoid a huge decrease in the amount of fish in that area. For example, if everyone in Hawaii who fished caught big fish in large amounts, most likely the fish species would decrease and there wouldn't be any. This would cause a huge change in the food chain of that region and it might reduce biodiversity. Overall, Hawaii's rule is important for animals to thrive and live safely.

Jalheyia O.

Truly we cause habitat destruction, water pollution as well as land pollution, air pollution, etc We seem to cause most if not all of the problems in ecosystems around the world. I am sure that if we were never here or never existed that there would be a lot more ecosystem balance. So to sum it all up we are the main if not only cause of species loss.-Lainey Berry

Such as over fishing trout because there is an increase of demand that calls for the fish although over fishing harms the environment depleting the amount of trout and overall throwing the ecosystem off balance. There is normally a high demand for the resource that is being exploited meaning that a lot of people are asking for the resource so it is needing to be made up and used more and more such as wheat, we use wheat for bread and many other food products with wheat in the ingredients so people tear down ecosystems to make room for larger wheat crops and over farm the wheat and destroy ecosystems.-Lainey Berry

The main cause of why so many different types of species are being lost is because of humans. Humans are recklessly destroying different animal habitats for themselves. Sometimes they're unknowingly killing animals. For example, if you cut down a tree a squirrel or a bird could be living in it and by cutting it down, you could kill the animal that's living in the tree. Also, by dumping trash in the ocean, which is another environment for animals, different types of trash can strangle the many types of marine life in the ocean. Additionally, the fish can ingest the micro plastics that can go in the water and it can poison them.

What does it mean to exploit human resources? I think it means that when people use more resources than necessary for example using amounts of a curtain resources or getting more crops/over-harvesting on items and probably won't leave any of the animals to go ahead and have because they are busy selling it to others, and not very mindful on where it is all going and if they need that much. For example, it is like a hoarder because they are stock piling and won't really share (hogging and hoarding) with others unless they get a profit or something out of it which makes them want to sell or give it away, and others can't take it even though they are going to use it well then the hoarder, like they would leave some resources for others such as animals because they use them too. They also take the amount they need not any more because what uses do they have to keep those with them? So they take and take until they can't take anymore from that spot. then they move to get more, kinda mean right. Not only that other people can't use that but animals too. For example, when curtain animals need different types of plants to eat they would find it right? but in this case it is more like a mix chance that they would get the resource they need or even if they would find it, due to humans exploiting resources. So if we take more then we need to begin to get a bit rough for animals to find the resources they need, making it harder for them to live in that type of area and adapt to curtain things. So this is what I think about what it means when exploiting human recourse.

How do I think invasive species harm the environment and what are they? Well invasive species are organisms that are new and non-native to that place like animals that come into the environment with mostly not anyone knowing where they came from or not even knowing that they are coming so they don't really know were to put them and technically put it in a few good places, although when some invasive species are not well know they could harm the environment in many ways. How could the invasive species harm the environment? Well they could ruin and change the food chain, also eating other animals by eating the other preys and too much of it could kill the animal whole species, and the invasive species can grow as others decline and not reaching their normal number ,and they would eat native plants around the area making it harder for others to eat them because they marked that as them (depending on the curtain invasive species). So invasive species could end up harming other animals when they eat them and keep on eating them over and over again basically ruining the food chain because they are targeting a curtain animal for a little longer and that animal could become extinct by them because they are being target by them and others too much, for example over-hunting can go like this to first, it started with them getting used to the place and when they did that they would start to target another animal and keep going at it until they are either extinct or endanger, so they are over-hunting over and over again. The same goes for eating some of the native plants, flowers, etc. they could take more because that is what they eat, and by eating too much once again would lead for them to be in a bigger population than the others, but they would also fight for the resources. Also changing the habitats is another way that they harm the environment, starting to take control of the environment that they are living in. So this is what invasive species are and how they harm the environment.

Invasive species are a species of plant or animal that does not belong in a given area whether it was brought by humans or another animal. One invasive species example would be, there is an area in which red dwarf squirrels live, these may or may not be a real species but it is just an example, but these red dwarf squirrels are natural to this area. After, some time humans began to inhabit this area and as they travel to the environment grey squirrels are brought with them whether by accident or purposely truly it doesn't matter, the grey squirrels are now the invasive species and they do not belong. The grey squirrels start to reproduce and the population increases and due to different life spans and food resources the grey squirrel out rule the red dwarf squirrels throwing off the balance of the ecosystem. This makes the Grey squirrels an invasive species and for the ecosystem to return to a balanced state they must be removed back into their own ecosystem.-Lainey Berry

There are many coinciding causes including pollution, hunting, and predators. The pollution in the air and water is becoming so bad for animals, (and humans,) that it gets so bad they die! People also play a big part in this, as they hunt so many animals for nourishment, or even fun, which is actually awful. Then, there's the whole natural, but still sad part, the predators. Some small species get entirely killed off by bigger animals, because they aren't able to protect themselves.

-Bijoux Lee

Human impact is the main cause of loss of Species in both animals and plants. Our industrialized culture is invasive to the environment in general. Humans invent more and more efficient ways to harvest, drill and use up resources. In the ocean, we over-fish and caused many non-food fish to become endangered or extinct. Even recreational activities, such as sports hunting, by humans, reduce the population of species and put them in the endangered category. Our farming practices, clear away trees and large patches of land, unbalancing the ecosystem. Humans also move other species around that are not compatible with their new environment, causing them to die or become invasive species in their new habitat. In addition to directly harm species, our daily activities also pollute the environment, further hurting other species. Chemicals and oil spills in the ocean, the Great Garbage Patch of the Pacific, and burning fossil fuel causes damage to the environment that more species of plants and animals become near-extinct or worse. In conclusion, human activities both directly and indirectly contribute to the loss of many species.

For example, the lionfish is an invasive species in the U.S. coastal area of the Atlantic. They threaten the ecosystem of the areas they are introduced to. They compete with native fish for resources and their rapid reproduction allowed them take over and unbalance an ecosystem very quickly. They eat large numbers of crustaceans and native fish. The presence of lionfish on native reefs can impact the entire community of species there.
