One reemerging theme in my life so far is the emotional loss of a father. In the novel Franks father is a alcoholic who abandons the family on a regular basis with no regards to the well being of his wife or children. My father is also a alcoholic. Although at this point in my life he is just a man I once knew.

He would take me to the mall on good days and spoil me from head to toe with material things. Just like Franks father did when Franks first sister was born.

I think the purpose of this reemerging theme is to make anyone in the same situation feel like they are not alone. Although I know that alcoholism is a popular disease I have never met someone in my situation. In a way it brings me comfort to know that you can get through it and I'm not alone.
