Student Identity and its role in the learning of the ELL<br>&nbsp;- creating asset stances for the ELL<br>&nbsp;- using "Identity Texts"<br>&nbsp;- an investment of the students identity into their work that is shared with the class.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;- provides a positive light in the ELL learning<br>3. Foundational skills for ELL students<br>&nbsp;- begin with oral language<br>&nbsp;- activates thinking before having to pick up a text<br>&nbsp;- Pictures and their power to relax the ELL as they seem less daunting and scary and easier to understand and engage<br>&nbsp;- First language use is vital to the learning of the whole ELL student. (Identity)&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;- discuss and clarify using their own language enriches the group work in English<br>&nbsp;- ease of social and emotional transition for student<br>&nbsp;- explain when appropriate and when not to use first language<br>- small group work is useful for any mix of classes.<br>&nbsp;- they are gateways into learning language and literacy<br>&nbsp;- Text selection should focus around ELL proficiency, background knowledge, cultural and social situations, age appropriate, and be a broad range of forms<br>&nbsp;- text selection has benefits within all different areas of ELL achievement through a solid focus on selected materials.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;- balance of fiction and non fiction is best<br>4.          <description><![CDATA[<div>1. What if the student is shy and for a multitude reasons does not want to participate in any of the theories or strategies outlined for them.<br>2. The gap for learning is large, what expectations are we to have for the ELL when we are in the Secondary levels of schooling.&nbsp;<br>3. when there are upwards of 25-30 students in the class and it is a mix class of ELL and non ELL, how do we balance the learning and theories for the other students in the class. </div>]]></description>
