How much mental rest time are you giving yourself?

I feel like I'm not giving myself enough rest time. Like I spend all my time making my mind feel active, whether it be cleaning the house, studying, or spending time on my phone, my mind never has a time where it can just relax and sit still for a minute. And that frustrates me the most.

Do you have time for all of the things you like doing?

I think that depends on what I have going on that day but most of the time I do have time to do the things I like, like talking with my friends or playing games with them, or working out. I think it's easy especially at my age.

Do you have enough time to work on all of your classes?

Yes I do.

Will school or other obligations compromise how much time you can commit to self-care? Which areas of self-care can you not afford to compromise?

I don't think school is a big part of it, I believe its more what I have to do throughout the day that determine how much time I can put into self-care and other things. Something I can't afford to compromise are my workouts. If I don't workout one day I don't feel accomplished with myself and feel like I made absolutely no progress that day.

Does this schedule feature some activities that you will engage in every week this quarter? Does it feature some activities that you will not engage in every week this quarter? Does it represent a "typical" week?

This schedule is pretty much every standard week I have, unless my parents have some long social event/birthday we have to go to that takes up the entire day. I included minor things too like snack times.

How may self-care contribute to your success as a student?

I believe it helps me be a better, more present student as it helps me focus on aspects I usually don't think are important (meditation, enjoying activities, etc.) Not only that but it's a great way to stay focused on your daily requirements too.

Wellness Self Assessment

Based on your wellness self-assessment results, describe your top two or three domains. Why do you think you do well in these areas?

My top three domains were Spiritual, Physical, and social in that order. Because I am a Christian and walk in the faith I am a very spiritual and optimistic person. I try to see the good in everyone even if they do not agree in the same ideas or beliefs as me, and encourage the faith on those who want to hear it. I believe physical was second because I am always trying to stay in shape and in health, and have never abused a drug or substance. Social was third because I am communicative and always keep others thoughts in mind. I usually don't think about it that hard but I do try to talk to a variety of people as well, inside of Bellevue College and outside.

What areas have the most room for improvement you like to improve the most? Why do you think that is?

Occupational needs the most work because I currently don't have a job, even though I'm a highschooler and many highschoolers have some sort of job, I usually just spend my day studying B.C. and topics I want to learn more about. I couldn't answer some of the questions whole heartedly because they were job related so I just switched them out for B.C. experiences.

Is there anything you do that helps with one domain that you can apply to another? Why or why not?

The social domain can probably help with the emotional domain, being social with friends and people you can trust can help voice your own thoughts and feelings more clearly than simply bottling up your emotions. It can be useful to let this all out, and it might even affect your environment as well.

What are the three most important skills from part one you think you need to improve the most and why?

The 3 most important skills I need to improve the most are having good time and space management skills and being able to recognize my workload, having strategies for getting started with a new assignment, and knowing how to make the most of group work and seminars. I chose these three to work on because many times I don't recognize how much work I'm building up when I procrastinate or avoid an assignment and eventually, it all comes crashing down on me when there is is an excessive amount to do. When I actually start a project or assessment, I will do it very head-on, and don't have some special strategy I can use to diminish my workload either, so I would like to do something about this too. Lastly, it would be great if I found ways to correctly use my time during class to converse with my classmates during a class project or assignment, this way I can make the most out of my time without having to do all of it myself during some later time.

Which active study techniques are you currently not using?

Some active study techniques I'm not using that would be good to start using are comparing and contrasting vocabulary and identifying patterns in questions.

Which skills or techniques would you like the learn the most about?

I would most want to learn about identifying patterns in questions and talking through facts in context. These seem like great methods that can better my understanding on topics to fully grasp them more.

How do you think adopting new strategies and techniques will help you this quarter?

I think finding new methods of learning like techniques and methods will surely help me throughout this quarter to prioritize my assignments more because the more attention and dedication I put into my work the more time I'll be able to work on them and learn what I need to learn in order to get the most from what I'm studying.

Why do you want to work on that wellness domain?

My motivation would be the things I need to save up for and the things I need to buy, in order to live more comfortably. I want to work on this wellness domain because I find myself asking for money and using that money instead of going out and earning it myself. That is something I want to work on.

What are the habits, actions, routines you can change to start to close the gap between where you are and were you want to be?

Waking up early, getting ready for the day, working out and working on assignments first (finish the most difficult things in the morning), cleaning the house, etc. Being a more disciplined person in your everyday life will help you be disciplined in everything you do. This includes going to find a job or finding ways to make money.

What specific actions will you take?

I will look for job applications and places to work where they accept teenagers.
Wellness Plan Reflection

Summarize the steps you planned to take for your wellness plan. Did you follow all of the steps? Why or why not?

Yes, I followed the steps to properly complete my financial goal. Although I didn't get an official job, my mom did decide to start taking me to her work to help her clean apartments, and she agreed to pay me a certain amount per hour. I had been waking up early, making breakfast at a reasonable time, and overall been a more disciplined person to properly support myself with this job.

How much progress did you ultimately make toward your goal?

Although some days I do sleep in a bit later than I should and also don't go through the entire routine, it's a process and I've been working on it since I started the goal. Since my mom hired me, I have saved up some amount of money so this makes me believe I've done a decent job.

How can you commit to continue to improve in this domain of wellness?

By understanding what I do and the effort I put into this goal is for something better and greater, even if it pains me to complete some days, I understand it will ultimately be for the better.

Select another domain of wellness you would like to improve next quarter or after you graduate or transition or revise your current actionable plan (as needed):

I would like to improve on intellectual wellness.

What specific actions will you take?

Further study topics outside of class and take notes and revise them.

When will you take them? (will it be ongoing or one time?)

It will be ongoing throughout the semester(s).

Where, or what kind of space will you begin to make these changes (at school, at home, at work)?

At school and at home.

Who will you make these changes with (yourself, with a friend, with a professional, other)?

Myself and possibly my loved ones, they can push me by asking if I've done what I've needed to do throughout the day.

How will you know you have met your goal?

When I feel intellectually capable and am able to solve my own questions/problems without assistance of other people/sources, and only by using the material given.

Could anything get in the way of achieving your goal (e.g., struggling to find time, difficulty feeling motivated)?

I would say difficulty feeling motivated but I plan to be disciplined by then so it will not be a problem.

Will you seek help (e.g., support of family or friends, seeing results)? Why or why not? What can you do differently here?

I think I can find different results or better results if I ask friends or family to quiz me on topics I'm learning and help me memorize these notes with verbal recitation. This would help me more than re-reading notes by myself.

What is one thing you can change this week to help you reach one of your goals and how will you continue to strive for a more balanced lifestyle in the future?

I believe waking up early around 7:30 - 8:30 will help me substantially with my goals and efforts. I heard a quote awhile ago that goes something along the lines of "if you do something difficult early in the morning, everything after that will seem easy." So if I wake up appropriately at a time that is not easy to do, the rest of my goals throughout the day should be a piece of cake.

What made you decide to choose to adopt the academic strategies, habits, and skills that you did this quarter?

I decided to work on my daily habits, realizing they were detrimenting the way I studied and the way I lived. I needed to learn new skills and ways to advance in the way I learned so I wouldn't fall behind, so I took advice from different videos I watched, specifically school study youtubers and college students with straight A's, who shared their method on how to get better grades.

How will you ensure you will practice these skills?

By staying on top of my daily habits and setting reminders for myself. This way, I can ensure the best possible outcome for myself. I also take short breaks in between my studies, those help.

Are there any additional resources that can help you make a difference this quarter? How and when will you use them?

I don't think so. Maybe I can look into that more with a guidance counselor at BC.

What will you do if an academic strategy or study skill or habit doesn't work?

This has happened to me before. If a study habit doesn't work for me, then it doesn't work for me. Not everyone's methods and strategies work the same for every person, and what I do simply works for me. What might be easy for others might be difficult for me and vice versa so I stick with what helps me most and what helps me focus and better understand the topic I am studying most, without causing confusion or study blocks.

Think about the courses you have taken this quarter at Bellevue College. Which did you enjoy more than others and what aspects stood out to you as beneficial?

Classes like my World Geography class were especially enjoyable and beneficial for a number of reasons. World Geography was the first BC class I took as a highschooler and it helped me ease into the environment of college without any stressful loads of work or peer talk. It was calm, few tables but the class had a welcoming feeling. The topics we learned there were especially intriguing to learn about too. I made a college friend too so, overall it was a great first experience to college.

Which of your strengths came into play this quarter and in what ways?

My essay articulation came into play for many of my assignments, as well as study methods. Many of my courses needed thorough studying with tools like Quizlet flashcards and etc.

Which classes are you looking forward to taking next quarter and for what reasons?

Business 101, because I'm fascinated with selling and business practices. it's something I'm pretty curious and excited to learn more about it.

How will you use your strengths to succeed in those classes?

I will do the best of my ability to not fall behind like I have in a few of my classes due to family trips or mental health issues.

Of the classes you took this quarter and the ones you plan on taking next quarter, reflect on how they will help you reach your education goals that you decided on for this portfolio project in assignment two.

They will help me get my associates degree which is something that will help me get a BA for my future job. It's something my parents are also excited about, so I can't wait to achieve my goals with these classes!

Review the work you did for the various assignments required for this portfolio, and make sure you have completed the ikigai assignment. Explain how your strengths and interests influence the educational goal, pathway, focus area, and degree plan you came up with and how the courses you are planning on taking help you move toward that goal or determine if you still want to do it.

My strengths and interest lean to either medical or business, this influenced me into looking further into getting an associates degree. Because a business major and medical major will probably take many years, I chose to take a pathway to get a transferable associates while graduating highschool in order to spend as little time as possible in completing my BA later on. Although I don't have 100%certainty in what BA or career path I want to take fully, business and medical both sound like something I want to be doing for the rest of my life and becoming an optometrist would be amazing.

Finally, explain how you will plan your classes next quarter. When will you make your next advising appointment? If you are still unsure about a career goal, what about a pathway? Which pathways are you leaning toward and when do you feel like you will have to for sure decide on one?

I have already chosen my classes for next quarter to further fulfill a DTA degree. I'm planning to make my next appointment in August. I'm definitely leaning more towards a medical pathway but maybe life will throw me a curveball, who knows.

Honestly explain how adopting new strategies has worked out for you this quarter. What has worked and what has not worked?

Something that has worked with me was revising how I lived and seeing what patterns I made for myself that worked for my study habits and what patterns didn't work. I tried my best to remove those patterns from my daily schedule and to better focus on things that build on my good work/life habits. Although it has been hard, I would say it has worked.

Since the last check in, what adjustments to your study habits or modifications to strategies have you made?

Waking up early has stayed the same and working on assignments and then later working on them again later in the day to thoroughly remember the topics have been a huge game changer on the way I learn.

How have these changes helped you or not? Why do you thing that is? If they made a difference, how do you know that they did?

These changes have helped me improve my grades and the way I take in information because the brain better understands and remembers things that are repeated.

Did you seek any help or resources from Bellevue College elsewhere, if so did they make a difference? Why or why not? If you did not seek any help or use resources, why not? How do you think they could have helped make a difference?

I have not sought out any help or resources from Bellevue College although I have looked at research online. Like YouTube study guide experts and such.

What did you learn about yourself in the process of using these strategies and making these changes to your study habits?

That I am infact lazy but I must overcome my lazy obstacles to get to where I want to be, where I need to be.

What strategies or habits will you continue to practice next quarter? Why?

The same ones because they help me grow as a student and a person.

What will you specifically change about your habits and strategies next quarter and how will this help?

Probably start completing assignments on time and without excuse.

Since elementary I have always been a good writer and gotten great scores on essays and other writing based topics. Another would be Chemistry I enjoy learning about elements and the reactions of the many combinations you can make. Some skills I'm good at would be calculating chemistry equations. Another academic strength would be a good group collaborator. I am a very good socializer when it comes to group projects and working with people has never been difficult for me. Also I try to have excellent composition, for example I try to keep my notes tidy and neat in order to understand and read better for revision. Lastly, I am good at persevering through tough assignments, because I always try to complete them as best as I can.

2. What are your personal strengths? List and describe at least five of your personal strengths.

I am an honest person, very see through and self explanatory. For example, when people ask me for an opinion I don't hide any details to make sure they fully understand my view. I am motivating, for example if someone doesn't feel like they can do something or think it's too hard I encourage them and push them to go above and beyond for themselves. I am dependable, for example when someone needs something of me I try to prioritize them above everything I'm doing. I am adaptive, for example when I am in a different environment I am very easy to accommodate to a new place whether it be for work, or socially, or etc. Lastly, I am easygoing, I try not to live my life worrying too much and believe everything will turn out okay in the end.

3. This would help me not only in my everyday life but in my academic life as well.

I would like to get closer to my religion and my faith. I want to attend church more and take more note of my spiritual side, I think it's beautiful and would be a big factor in my love for myself and for other people.

I want to start my own business. I've had a clothing business in the back of my head for a long time now and I think I have the capabilities and the resources to start a small brand. But having my own business would be a dream of mine.

I want to be more active and fit in my body. being a strong active person is not a bad thing and would help me grow as a teenager and as a person mentally too. This is exactly what I have learned and taught to look at when shopping.

How hard was it for you to stay within the budget and why?

I spent up to 1120 in total in the end, so I ended up with 80$ extra which is good. It was not difficult, I just asked myself what things can you live with and without?

If you were Pechola, how could potentially you save more money each month?

Cut out the dinner with friends and coffee. Coffee adds up quickly. Instead, save it up.

Look at your own budget and estimate how much money you spend on things that are not truly needs. How much money could you save if you cut them in half?

Because I am a teenager I do not have subscriptions or payments to complete, or rent, or etc. I still am considered a child but I do spend money sometimes on food every month like snacks or an extra side like appetizers.
