How to study: this is what I do now and what I used to do in the past

Studying has always been a pleasure for me, and I rarely see it as an hassle. However, my study method has changed from when I was in middle and high school to now, at university, because I must study much more for exams, which are more challenging.

The first step of my old study method was paying attention in class, which I still do. Paying attention and taking notes are fundamental to my learning. When I had a test, whether it was oral or written, I used to start studying a couple of days before. I would highlight the most important parts of the book and then repeat them over and over again.

Now, my approach is completely different because I have to study hundreds of pages. During the lesson period, I take notes in class and supplement them with information from the book in the following days. This results in a summary of all the important information I need to know. When a topic is particularly difficult, I create mind maps, which are a lifesaver. About a month before each exam, I organize my study schedule by studying six days a week, leaving one day for rest. I do not study for more than four hours a day, except when I am desperate. Each week includes days for studying and days for recalling. For me, recalling is the most important thing because it helps me to remember all the topics and be well prepared for every exam.

Friendship in my life: what I do to cultivate the relationships I care about and the role they play in making me happy

I am a very sociable and outgoing person, so it comes naturally to me to talk with people and make new friends wherever I am and with whomever I am with. I am a social animal and need to spend time with people. This is not because I don't enjoy my own company, but because being with others and creating connections with them stimulates me and makes me feel fulfilled in some way.

However, I consider only a few people to be true friends. When I say "true friend," I mean someone I can count on, talk to, and trust. These qualities are hard to find in many people. Honesty is one of the most important things in friendship for me. I am a very honest person, and I expect my friends to behave the same way with me.

Another principle of friendship is listening when a friend needs to confide in someone. Being there for them when they need me, supporting and listening to them are the best ingredients for a satisfying friendship. Also, to have a real and true friendship, it is fundamental to discuss when something is wrong and not just put it aside and pretend that it doesn't exist. It is important to talk about it and let the other person know when something is off or not working as it should.

Where is your happu place? Why is it your happy place?

My happy place is the house I have in Calabria. My dad is from Calabria, and he has a house there which is on his farm, so it's in the countryside. I've been going there every summer since I was born and I couldn't be happier, it's a truly magical place for me. Being surrounded by meadows, my summer days are always spent outside playing with my friends there. We did all sorts of things: played hide-and-seek, built 'little houses' in the trees (which of course didn't hold up), went on bike rides....

Being used to city life for the rest of the year, spending time in the country, outdoors, free was really a moment of escape for me. What makes this place so magical for me are also the people: they are all very warm and affectionate. Everyone knows everyone and they are always ready to help.

Does happiness have a role in people's professional and personal succes in your opinion?

I definitely think that happiness can play a role in people’s professional and personal success. In my opinion, work and employment are not only drivers of people’s happiness, but happiness can also help shape job market outcomes and productivity.

I believe that people who experience happiness or positive emotions are less likely to be absent from work or quit their jobs. When you are happy, you are more confident, energetic, and motivated to put that energy into your work in order to achieve goals and overcome difficulties.

Regarding personal success, I believe that happiness is a personal success in itself. When I talk about happiness, I mean being happy with oneself. It's not easy and requires time, energy, and continuous effort, but it's definitely worth it.

Meeting people from different cultures: what I do and how I behave

I believe that meeting people from different cultures can be an enriching experience, as I love traveling and discovering new aspects of diverse cultures. However, it's crucial to approach these interactions with respect, without judgment, or with the presumption that one's own culture is superior. Here are some things I do when meeting people from another culture:

Research their culture beforehand to understand their customs, traditions, and values. This helps me avoid misunderstandings and show respect for their culture. I always try to do this, especially when I'm traveling, in order to be prepared.

Be open-minded and willing to learn. I respect their beliefs and values even if they are different from my own.

Avoid stereotypes and assumptions based on their culture. Every person is unique, and it's important to treat them as an individual.

Show genuine interest in getting to know them and their culture. Ask questions, listen to their stories, and be open to learning about their experiences.

Face sving strategies: what they are and how my friend and I use them

Face-saving is an action designed to avoid causing embarrassment to a person during negotiations or conversations. In conflict resolution, face-saving aims to preserve the dignity, self-respect, personality, or reputation of the people involved. As one of the strategies in conflict negotiation, face-saving has been the subject of several scholarly theories.

Examples of face-saving strategies include disagreeing indirectly when someone is wrong, using techniques such as "That's a good idea, but...". Another strategy is the "indirect no", for example, saying "I like what you proposed for the group, but maybe it's more comfortable to do this other thing." Humor is another important face-saving strategy; for instance, a group member apologizes, and you reduce tension with humor and forgiveness.

My friends and I also use face-saving strategies. The strategy I use the most is humor, for instance, when I or someone else does something embarrassing. I use it to prevent things from becoming awkward. Another face-saving strategy my friends and I use is the indirect no. When someone proposes something we don't like, we convey it without directly saying no
