Their ancestors likely crossed through Alaska and went south, towards their present location. The Chinook were discovered by Lewis and Clark in 1805. They were divided into 'round-heads' and 'flat-heads' At birth, the soon-to-be leaders would have their skulls slightly deformed so that they would stand out amongst the others.
