         <title>Beginnings</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Not much is known about the Chinook before the Europeans came. Their ancestors likely crossed through Alaska and went south, towards their present location. The Chinook were discovered by Lewis and Clark in 1805. Lewis made this note upon meeting them: "These people the Chinooks...have been very friendly to us; they appear to be a mild inoffensive people. ..."</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The Chinook tribe was divided into classes. They were divided into 'round-heads' and 'flat-heads' At birth, the soon-to-be leaders would have their skulls slightly deformed so that they would stand out amongst the others. The 'flat-heads' had the power over the slaves and worked in the tribe's political arena.</div>]]></description>
