We live in a world where many of the clothes, food, and other things we have come from different countries such as China, Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, and others. We do this because of globalization. Globalization has had a great impact on workers, consumers, business, and the environment.

The name 'sneakers' came from an American man who noticed how quietly people walked when they wore them. Sneakers were created in the mid 1800's. When they started, the were used for sports like tennis, croquet, running, and basketball. They were made with cotton and rubber. In the 1950's, people changed their view on sneakers and thought they were not just meant for sports. People began wearing them as fashion items. Today, sneaker companies try to design their's to be the "latest and greatest".

The complex upper area of sneakers are made from natural materials like cotton and leather. Sometimes, the upper area is made of human-made materials such as nylon. The mid-sole is the part of the shoe that cushions the bottom of your foot. It is made of padding and plastic. Chemicals are poured into molds and then baked. The tough outer sole needs to be tough but flexible. Sneakers used to have rubber soles. Today, sneakers are made from synthetic rubber.

A lot of work goes into creating sneaker designs and materials. You don't see words on your shoes that say "Made in U.S.A" anymore because in the 1970's, they became more complicated. The number of styles increased, and more labor was needed. Because of how expensive it all was, the job was given to other countries. At first, production happened in South Korea until the wages went up. Production shifted again, this time to China, Indonesia, and Vietnam.

Sneaker companies use many methods. Typically they are sent by container ship from Asia, and is the least expensive way to ship the shoes. The sneakers are stored in waterproof freight containers. When the ship arrives, the boxes are loaded onto a truck. From there, they transport the shoes across the U.S. Sneakers are distributed to 18,000 stores in the U.S.

The Global sneaker has increased economic interdependence among several countries. When companies in wealthy companies create factories in poor countries, they create new jobs. That improves the workers standard of living. And the money they make helps bring economic growth to their country. Low prices benefit consumers in in both rich and poor countries. Also, countries that trade with one another want to maintain good relations. Conflicts may reduce too. Increased global trade can bring harm as well has good. Some countries lack laws to protect the environment, and worker protection laws. Globalization is here to stay. Even if it is bad, or good.
