ALWAYS LISTEN BEFORE YOU ACT!

Today, Listening skill on young learners was covered. There were several techniques demonstrated during the session. They were 4 corners, Jigsaw Reading, Making Posters and Gallery walk. These techniques were solely used based on how the students will improve listening skills gradually over the course of the year.
Considering my work place and overall status of my students, Poster making activities for listening activities is remarkeblly easy to be understood. I suppose, i can grab attention of my students quite easily. I believe my students will not find this activitiy frustrating and complicated. It enables the students to participate the lesson and not take it as a assignment during the course.
Gallery walk and Jigsaw reading is one of the two activities that i have to modify to a big extend. Because it doesn’t seem that my students will carry out such activities mainly based on peer to peer interaction and listening /understanding each other. What i would do is to run the activitiy in Turkish in order to make sure that they get familiar with the activity itself. After they successfully completed the activity, then, i would turn the activity content as simple as possible. From there, i might increase the level of diffuculty each time i use the tecnique. Later that, I don’t there is going to be much of an issue since they will be already familiar with the process.
The techniques and tips on teaching listening skills to young learners are valuable gems for my teaching carreer. What i like to add the things i learn during the sessions would be the include as familiar content possible. If there is a case that I am to play a song , I would preferably pick a cultural songs to grab their attention more easily or ı would love to collaborate with musics teacher on such things to improve co-operative school environment.
Lastly, Carrying out the activities in the classroom is a routine job for us as teachers but thinking about little details without complicating learning process and being as precise as it can be play a crucial role in teaching and learning process. These are the things i look forward to implement in my classes.

Speaking Lesson Plan(Dialogue)

Flashcards
1) What i like about.
The use of flash cards in the speaking skill lesson proved to be an engaging and effective strategy. It facilitated vocabulary development and encouraged spontaneous speech. The visual prompts served as valuable aids in initiating and sustaining conversations.

2) How i would adapt
To adapt flash cards for PDC meetings, I would propose a collaborative flash card exchange. Each teacher could bring flash cards they have found effective in their classrooms, sharing insights into how they utilize them for speaking skill development. This adaptation fosters a sense of resource-sharing within the community and ensures that the technique remains relevant and practical.
Roleplaying

1) What i like about
Roleplaying emerged as a dynamic and immersive technique for the speaking skill lesson. It allowed teachers to simulate real-life communication scenarios, promoting fluency and authentic language use.

2) How I would adapt
To adapt roleplaying for PDC meetings, I would structure scenarios around common challenges in teaching speaking skills. Each session could focus on a specific aspect, such as handling different proficiency levels or addressing specific speaking difficulties. This adaptation ensures that the technique remains valuable and applicable, providing teachers with insights into various scenarios they may encounter

Onion Rings
1) Might be questionable to do
The onion rings technique, while creative, may be less effective for a speaking-focused lesson due to its potential complexity and time consumption. It could distract from the primary goal of fostering spontaneous verbal communication.

2) Adaptation for PDC Meetings
To make the onion rings technique more appropriate for PDC meetings, I would simplify it by using concentric circles to represent different speaking strategies or layers of communication. This adaptation maintains the visual appeal while ensuring that the technique remains a clear and effective tool for discussing and sharing speaking skill strategies within the community.

Drilling
1) What i like about
Drilling, when applied purposefully, proved beneficial for refining pronunciation and promoting fluency in the speaking skill lesson. It provided a structured approach to practice, encouraging learners to focus on language patterns and intonation.

2) Further Adaptation for PDC Meetings
To adapt drilling for PDC meetings, I would suggest incorporating it as a brief and targeted activity focusing on specific speaking challenges. This approach ensures that drilling remains a practical and time-efficient tool for skill development within the constraints of a PDC meeting. Teachers can share variations and adaptations of drilling techniques that address various aspects of speaking skills.

Spelling Activities

1) Facilitator Organization
The facilitator organized the session with various material preparation. For "Look, cover, say, write, check," she provided individual sheets. "What's the word" involved crossword puzzle. "Color the correct spelling" utilized worksheets with varied spellings to identify with color. The "Peg spelling game" included pre-prepared word cards and pegs. The tasks were organized progressively, starting with group work and advancing to whole groups rotating clockwise and taking notes about each and every activitiy.

2) Preparation for PDC Meeting:
To use these ideas in a PDC meeting, as a future facilitator, I need to prepare a comprehensive set of materials in advance. This involves printing word cards, preparing worksheets, and ensuring each participant has access to necessary tools like whiteboards and markers. The facilitator's role would be to explain the purpose of each activity, guide discussions on effective implementation in primary classrooms, and facilitate collaborative reflections on the activities' impact on spelling instruction.

3) Stage of PDC Meeting:
These activities would likely be part of the "Engage and Share" stage of a PDC meeting. . This stage focuses on providing teachers with practical, classroom-ready strategies and activities. The spelling tasks are interactive and participatory, encouraging teachers to engage actively with the materials But to be honest, ı am not sure that the part where we were taking notes of every activity about how we can change the activities depending on our conditions was a part of Reflect & Evaluate section or not. I guess it is safe to say it is still a part of engage and share section.

Brain Breaks:
1) PDC Topic for Teachers:
Discussing the importance of incorporating brain breaks to enhance student engagement and focus could be a valuable PDC topic. In the future PDC meetings, teachers can explore various brain break activities suitable for primary school students and how to seamlessly integrate them into lessons. I can divide the brain breaks as settlers and stirrers as energy level of class.

2) Useful for Personal Use:
As a teacher, incorporating brain breaks into my own classes would be beneficial for maintaining a positive classroom atmosphere. It could help manage students' energy levels, reduce stress, and improve overall classroom dynamics.

Stirrer and Settler Activity:
1) PDC Topic for Teachers:
Introducing different stirrer and settler activities as effective classroom management tools can be an engaging PDC topic. Teachers can discuss how these activities promote a positive learning environment and address various teaching challenges.

2) Useful for Personal Use:
Personally, incorporating stirrer and settler activities would be helpful for transitioning between lessons and managing transitions within my classes. Learning and sharing different activities during the PDC could enrich my toolkit for maintaining class engagement.

Telephone Whisperers:
1) PDC Topic for Teachers:
Exploring communication strategies like telephone whisperers can be an insightful PDC topic. Teachers can discuss how improving writing skills positively impacts classroom management and student collaboration.

2) Useful for Personal Use:
Enhancing my own communication and writing skills, particularly through activities like telephone whisperers, would be valuable for managing student interactions and fostering a supportive classroom community.

In each reflective journal entry, it's essential to emphasize the practical applicability of the discussed techniques in both the broader context of professional development and the individual teacher's classroom. I can’t wait to get back to my school and try the classroom management techniques to my classes. I will observe the outcome of the techniques and adapt them to my needs.
