We often think that the important quotes, main ideas, and key themes are obvious when we give a text to students, but that is not often the case. Through digital annotation, even more than with physical annotation, students can customize how the text looks with colors, highlights, drawings, images, GIFs, audio recordings, hyperlinks, etc. to really allow them to see the text as a living, breathing thing that they can read and respond to.

If at first you do not understand a text, maybe another student's annotation may help you in thinking about it. I also loved Sofia's point about the comfort level of our students today and how they are often more comfortable behind a screen and more willing to participate and actually engage successfully with the work.

I also like that it is a modality (most) students feel very comfortable using.
