Directions: Choose 1 or two questions and annotate digitally. Then post annotated screenshot in Exploring Digital Annotation padlet.

Digital Annotation Reading
Question #1: On page 87, Kristen and Troy talk about students in Jen's class annotating digitally, What are the benefits of digital annotation for students?

Question #2: Page 87, authors talk about the challenge of using technology, What are some ways to overcome it?
Question #3: Page 87, It says, “Digital annotation allows those shared readings to live on the screen indefinitely.”
When students upload their annotated screenshots in a shared accessible(online) platform, ex. padlet, google slides, etc, how could that support reading comprehension?

When finished, read over at least 3 peer responses and reply to at least 1 peer's response.

I think that the most valuable part of digital annotation is to allow students to make the text jump out at them. We often think that the important quotes, main ideas, and key themes are obvious when we give a text to students, but that is not often the case. Through digital annotation, even more than with physical annotation, students can customize how the text looks with colors, highlights, drawings, images, GIFs, audio recordings, hyperlinks, etc. to really allow them to see the text as a living, breathing thing that they can read and respond to.

It is a great way to learn from your peers and see their understanding of the text. If at first you do not understand a text, maybe another student's annotation may help you in thinking about it. I also loved Sofia's point about the comfort level of our students today and how they are often more comfortable behind a screen and more willing to participate and actually engage successfully with the work.

One thing I like is the convenience and the ease with which students can access the materials. I also like that it is a modality (most) students feel very comfortable using. It can support comprehension by allowing students to write or say more about a text and allow for more ways to collaborate.
