Simo Hayha was a finnish sniper in the winter war he was estimated to have a confirmed kill count of somewhere around 500 kills in 100 days, he stopped fighting after he was hit in the face by a HE rifle round. When a medical team was making rounds they found him and was about to throw him into the corspe pile but then they found that he still had a pulse and was just unconcious he then made a full revoury (despite the deformed face) and lived to be 96 and died on april 1st 2002 (not an april fools lol)

there was mistrust between both countries. Finland declared itself neutral at the start of the war, but the soviets thought that Finland would let itself be used as a base so that the enemy's could attack. the soviets faked a border incident to gain an excuse to invade. the red army was ill-prepared, poorly led, and unable to handle the terrain and harsh winter weather.
