The Sheriff Appeal Court is a relatively recent addition to the Scottish judicial system, according to the official Scottish Courts and Tribunals website. It was created in 2015 to serve as a specialised appellate court for the purpose of hearing appeals from sheriff court judgements in civil cases. With the exception of some cases that must be considered by the Inner House of the Court of Session, the court has jurisdiction over all appeals in civil cases from the sheriff courts.
