We are experiencing a mobile-centric world, where the majority of people have access to smart technology.Nevertheless, it’s important to note that the millennial students and even the Gen Z students are the primary cause of our amazing technological evolution. They’ve made it possible because they’ve adapted to the latest technological trends.

“School is entirely different now. The age when people were playing football in the yard is pretty much over, as more people play FIFA on their smartphones. Yet, when you get into college, you’ll start using different technology for the achievement ofbetter-calculated goals.”– John Passio, CEO at essaygeeks.co.uk.

Let’s take a look at some of the most popular technology trends that every modern college is ought to adopt in order to reach a sea of growth opportunities.

1. Widespread Use of Smart Mobile Devices

If you look at the numbers in 2015, which say that 86% of students own smartphones and they regularly use it at school, it’s easy to realize how the last 10 years of evolution dramatically changed the scene in every field of activity and every professional environment.

Colleges and schools are no exception. Nowadays, students happen to benefit from dozens of resources such as search engines, video content, instant communication, instant information, and digital applications that solve specific needs and problems. Moreover, they also provide new opportunities for growth if they’re implemented properly.

2. Access to Internet

If so many people have smartphones, it would be simple to believe that most of them are also connected to the Internet. So what does that mean for the academic environment? Well, for instance, students now have access to unlimited information. Back when I was a kid, I used to go to the library on the other side of the town to find something (and count the time spent searching through the texts too!)

So what does this mean? Well, in simple terms, teachers that cannot adapt to this change will lose their respect in front of all tech-savvy students who crave for innovation. And those who can adopt innovation and collaborate with the new age students, well, both them and their students will experience new amazing breakthroughs and discoveries.

3. Video Slowly Becomes the New Primary Learning Tool

Video content is rising every year, and the educational environment continues to follow and adopt the latest educational practices that make video the primary learning source. Modern teachers can now leverage the power of videos in order to help students remember and understand different concepts, lessons, and facts.

4. Remote Learning is Now More Accessible than Ever

Students do no longer have to physically attend each class, as they can watch the teacher through a camera, or they can listen to a quality audio recording. Many students have started to attend schools virtually, as it’s a more “flexible” way of studying. There are more technologies that give students possibilities to connect virtually: pre-recorded courses, class forum, email, social media, project management apps, and much more.

5. The Use of Digital Textbooks

Digital textbooks bring so many new opportunities to the class. The lessons can be updated with the latest information and knowledge, the class can become even more interactive, and the schools do no longer have to invest in paper textbooks each year.A one-time investment that would make that college both popular and effective.

Moreover, a smart digital textbook also allows students to get access to search engines, video platforms, social media, and other communication channels such as different software or tools.

6. Backward Learning

Backwards learning, or flipped learning, is a popular method that is already widely adopted in the United States and not only. Basically, students do no longer learn their lessons in class. They do it at home, using the material given by the teacher. In the majority of cases, the educational resources are video-based and can be digested with much ease.

Then, after the student understands all the basic concepts and gets through the lesson at home, he’ll come to class and start practicing the information he has previously digested. The teacher will help with the process by offering insightful examples and further detailed instructions.

An extra benefit of backward learning is that teachers will be able to analyze the performance of each student, develop useful statistical reports, and guide his action according to all the feedback that he witnesses.

Conclusion

It’s impressive how the world changes so quickly. With now everyone having access to Internet, tools, and devices, new bright minds will bring amazing changes. Technology evolves at an incredibly high rate, and every field and sector of our society will follow. The first who follow will gain a slight advantage, and those who’ll ignore it shall remain behind for good.

Author Bio:

Chris Richardson is an editor and a blogger from London.
