There was a plot of 13 people, that wanted to blow up the parliament and kill the king James I. They wanted to blow up the parliament the fifth of November, but something happened, and the plan failed.

WHO THEY WERE?

There was 13 plotters that wanted to kill the king, James I, because he wasn't catholic and he discriminated against all the catholics. The boss was Robert Catersby, but Guy Fawkes had to put the 36 barrels in the celers of the parliament, and the he had to light on them the fifth of November.

WHY DID THE PLAN FAIL?

Someone wrote an anonymus letter to the king, explaindig what the plotters were going to do the fifth of November.
When Guy Fawkes was putting the barrels some guardians arrested him. Then he was questioned and tortured till he said who were all the plotters.

THE FESTIVITY NOWADAYS

They do bonfires in the streets and they put a guy in the top of the bonfire, and it represents Guy Fawkes.
The people, normaly the child, do homemade guys and then they go arround of the streets saying "a peny for the guy!" and they buy sweets.
Not many people know that we celebrate the death of the plotters
