Gunpowder is an important invention that is typically used for military purposes to defend the country. 
 
It is still the basis for many modern weapons such as grenades, rockets and guns. However, it is no longer the most explosive force available today to the military forces. With technology, weapons are now more advanced and sophisticated.

    The invention of printing encouraged people to buy more prints and books. Movable type printing made printing even more popular by making it even cheaper and easier to use. 

     The printing styles during the ancient China had influenced the page styles that are made and commonly found in many modern-made novels and books around the world. It has also influenced the use of ink jet, laser jet and other types of printers found today. 
 
     Book would not be as popular today if the printing press was not invented. As technology evolved, computers were invented thus making printing even much simpler and faster today.

    Paper is no doubt one of the world's greatest inventions. It was once feared that books will become obsolete one day. The trend today is moving towards paperless offices and perhaps one day paperless homes. Even school children are increasingly reading and typing on laptop. 

However, it is impossible to imagine a world without paper! Even in this era of emails and digital books, we can see papers all around us. We use it to write and print on, cover our walls, clean ourselves and many others ways.

     Today, papers are made from wood. The trees are cut down and turned into wood chips. The fibers or cellulose are extracted from the wood chips and put into a machine called digester. Here, the fibers are made into a paste called pulp. The pulp is then processed by a machine that flattens and dries it into paper.

    The compass has helped pave the road to advances in science, helped discover the whole continents and opened up trade routes from all around the world.

     Today, most commercial planes have electronic GPSs but pilots always carry a hand held compass just in case the system fails on them.

     Campers and hikers also carry around a compass nowadays to help them navigate through the jungles and forests and prevent them from losing their way.

     Overtime, inventors have modified the compass. It now uses magnetised iron needles and are usually small so that they can be brought around easily.
