This is a work of art created by Craig to represent an elephant and tree mix or hybrid. I think this piece really well represents nature as a whole, meaning the tree and as well as its inhabitants, or elephants. Elephants are considered an endangered species, so i believe the artist was trying to capture their beauty.

I chose this art because it reminds me of the book cover for The Great Gatsby. In the book, there’s an eye billboard looking over the City of Ashes. This setting is where the lower class lives and the billboard is a symbolism of God watching over those less fortunate. Looking at Vang’s art makes me think both eyes represent beauty and destruction. When will humans see the bigger picture which consists of Earth’s downfall and beauty? Vang's art can mean a lot of things which is why art holds so much power.

This piece was created by Brooklyn-based artist Madjeen Isaac. Being the daughter of Haitian immigrant parents, Isaac often grapples with the struggles immigration, as well as changes to our society if we step in and take action against climate change. This piece, titled "Amongst the Fruits of Our Labor," pictures Isaacs hometown of Brooklyn, New York covered in lush greenery. Isaac has many other paintings just like this one, depicting the city of Brooklyn a lush paradise, and the joy on the faces of those living in it. Creating beautiful gardens across our cityscapes could prove significant in our fight against global warming, giving back to our planet the nature it needs, and providing ourselves with our most vital resource: clean air. In many of her pieces, Isaac plays with the idea of leaning into centuries-old practices and help our environment. This is an incredibly inspiring piece, and I believe that in years to come this piece will make its mark in history and inspire others to take steps against climate change.

Upon reading the artist's visionary explanation, looking at this artwork elicits an odd sense of hope for me. This artwork depicts several animals that are mercilessly swept away by waves, consequential to the glaciers that have melted and contributed to the sea level rise. These animals- the polar bear, sea turtles, and seals- help each other to find another home as they fight against the waves, as explained by the artist. Despite their differences and the fact that they come from different places, they unite to find safety. I think this is representative of the artist's hope for the future that all countries band together to advance toward a lifestyle that minimizes the output of carbon dioxide.

However, when you think about it realistically, some of these animals are predators and prey in their original homelands, and they'd most likely resort to attacking each other in real life. It was most likely intentional that the artist paired animals that are stronger than one another. This realization can serve as a rude awakening that you can connect to humans in place of these animals.

In fact, this masterpiece depicts a young woman who represents mother nature, yet is drowned from the constant battles Earth has to endure. Her resemblance is to portray a message that the damage towards our Earth is unchangeable. Furthermore, the woman’s meaning creates awareness and brings out the consideration for our Earth. This drawing gives me feelings of loss and helplessness, because of the fire and the knowledge that most of these animals are extinct. With an underlying tone of beauty and appreciation, the way this art is drawn out is outstanding, and appreciating the animals for what they were and the lifespan they held on this earth. The animals/plants shown in this picture are Dimetrodon, extinct 245 million years ago, Elkhorn coral (critically endangered) the Dodo bird, extinct 1681, Tasmania Tiger, extinct 1936, and Bornean Orangutan, which is critically endangered.

This artwork was made all the way back in 1818 by Caspar Friedrich. Caspar was a romanticist artist, who always wanted to bring a deeper, more intense meaning behind his canvas's. This specific painting was exemplifying humans relationship with nature. It is a complete embodiment of life, death, and change. The fog gives a mysterious vibe to the painting, as if the man has no idea what will come next. Through this, it shows the spirit of man, who is able to take on the unknown with perseverance. The mountains also symbolize the arduous journey that is set forth for the man. This painting gives power to many people, and personally makes me feel as if I can accomplish anything. The artist does a good job to inspire people in a mysterious way.

This beautiful oil-painting was created by Angela Gage, this landscape portrait is part of a collection of other works; the Ohio Plein Air Society. This collection is made up of 45 artworks based on various rural areas in the state of Ohio, each painting focuses on the various simplicity of nature. This painting shows us a sunflower field, maybe it's a sunny afternoon, or a cloudy morning; either one, we know this sunflower field is tranquil. You can just see the sunflowers gently dancing in the breeze, nothing but the tall blades of the plains, and the chimes from the house afar can fill your mind.

Personally, I'm from Ohio, and this piece reminds me of just how beautiful the state is. I remember driving through the Southern farmlands on road trips, gazing at the vast fields; catching a glimpse of a horse or cow enjoying the outdoors. This painting reminds me of home, and if the effects of climate change worsen, I could lose that. Not just me, but Earth herself will lose so much of what she's worked so hard to build up over the centuries.

Facing the Edge of the Forest: Susan Cohen Thompson (Lucas Elrod P1)

I chose this art piece by Susan Cohen Thompson, as there was something so captivating about the faces of humans being in nature. The trees and distant horizons of water, plants, grass, all come together to create a sense of belonging and familiarity by depicting three human faces. I believe this art piece represents humans' connection to nature and how the state of our planet represents the state of our species and well-being. Thompson does an excellent job at emphasizing this concept, as she has many other similar works.

The Plastic Ocean by Tan Zi Xi (Jezzebel Quidlat)

This art was created by Tan Zi Xi to recreate life under the Pacific Garbage Patch. She used about 20,000 pieces of trash, which she picked off of beaches and clean-ups to create the art. While looking at this art, it makes me realize the amount of influence and destruction humans have/do to the earth. Looking at it from the top or from pictures, we can see that it is bad, but it doesn't impact us too much because it doesn't affect us. However, this art gives us the point of view of the sea animals that have to constantly live under it and see it. We get to see how our carelessness with the planet affects not only us, but also other living things around us that don't get a choice with how their homes look.

[Anne Aragon P1] Northern White Rhino: Violet Astor

Through my research, I stumbled upon this particular piece from the RISE art gallery. In celebration of Earth Day, a group of artists chose to devote their time to creating works of art that highlight the love of our planet just as much as our love for art. This one by Violet Astor is titled, "Northern White Rhino". Violet decided to create this piece upon learning that there were only three Northern White Rhinos left in the world. Discovering and understanding the complex emotions Violet must have felt upon learning that fact struck a chord within me. The simple fact lead me to realize just how severe the impact we have on our planet is. It made me want to step up and change my personal habits/ things that are in my control to help us walk towards a greener future.

This artwork was created by Anton Dymtchenko. To me, it feels like nature is watching everything I do. The birds, trees, bugs all feel my presence when I step out of my house and they observe me. Nature is always watching the things I do, just as I watch and admire it. This makes me want to be cautious about the things I do in this world because it affects the nature around me.

How the Art Makes Me Feel: Hieronymus Bosch’s “The Garden of Earthly Delights” is a captivating and enigmatic triptych that explores the relationship between humanity and the natural world. The central panel, depicting a fantastical, dreamlike landscape populated by strange, hybrid creatures, evokes a sense of wonder and unease. The artwork invites the viewer to ponder the delicate balance between the beauty and the chaos of the natural world, and our own place within it. The intricate details and surreal imagery create a sense of both fascination and discomfort, challenging the viewer to confront the complexities and contradictions inherent in the human experience of the natural realm.

History - Richard Misrach had traveled to the New Orleans and the Gulf Coast shortly after hurricane Katrina. He took thousands of photos (including the one shown above) that show the way the town was ravaged by this storm, and to show the voices of the town (hence the frustration of "what now?")

This picture makes me feel almost angry and hopeless. To see the "What now?" spray painted on the home that has been taken by this terrible hurricane, makes me angry for the citizens that had lived through it.
