Christmas special event

This was just before the start of this study block but was the main influence on me progressing my DJ career over the last few months. The original plan for this night was that I was only going to DJ from 1-2 in the upstairs room but an hour before the event I got a call from one of our DJ's who had dropped out. I grew some confidence and decided to cover his spot. This was a 10-11 spot in the main room. This was my first main room gig.

Christmas special

After the opening set I had built up a lot of confidence for my main time set upstairs. Something I had always been very complacent doing was dancing and having a stage presence. This was my first day of putting this to the test and giving it a go. This was a successful move and I was able to hold the crowd for the whole hour of my set. The video is from the end of my hour.

First radio set

From the back of this event I received a message from a local Brighton DJ called Odela Sound who asked me to go on his radio show with decadence radio. This was from 2-4 and was an excellent chance for me to showcase my skills and what I have been learning within the lessons. During this set my usb had exported my tracks wrong and all of the waveforms were extremely off beat. This was something that me and Mimi had previously spoken about and was able to take what I was taught in class and use it on the radio. I have a video of this set but it won't let me upload without paying £90.

This was a big step up in my career being able to perform at one of the staple venues in brighton. This set was a 1-2 slot and carrying on from my christmas event I wanted to bring energy and passion to my set. Due to it being a main time I anticipated the room being pretty full, which it was for a room 2. I started the set at 128 bpm and ended at 130. This is very quick for house music but is a good speed to build energy within the crowd.

Multi Genre event

last year I had a multi genre residency at a nightclub in Oxford Circus, but these events stopped for a while due to some complications with the nightclub and the owners of the event split up. However, I got a phone call from one of the guys who said he's bringing the event back and would love to get me down. I was nervous for this but still accepted. I took the time to learn how to mix multi genre again and really spent a lot of time perfecting the craft of mixing between genres and BPM's. I was on the opening slot and was able to keep the room filled from the start.

friends event at Dust

This was a closing set for my friends event company which is called breach. This was their second event and I was brought in as a headliner but got given a closing time. This set was cut short due to their being no one in the room. This was a test of character as I didn't see too much point in putting in my best performance. My confidence was knocked but put it to the back of mind and just had some fun. Me and Mimi had spoken about playing to a room of 5 people should be the same as playing to a room of a 1000. I took that advice on board and ended up with a good set.

Dance on Arrival

This was my biggest gig to date. Dance on Arrival are a renowned house music events company who hire the biggest artists from around the world to perform at their shows. I was approached by the owner of the event who I had made contact with from my events back at home and he asked me to play a set and find other uni house music DJ's. So I did, I asked 5 other dis if they'd be down and we were given room 3 at horizon for the night. I was given a 1 hour set but got extended to two due to the energy within the room. I am very proud of this achievement and hope for more opportunities like it in the future
