Instead, building a good relationship as well as getting the appreciative support from the followers is the key success for nowadays leadership. Professor Linda A. Hill indicates that future leaders should learn how to "leading from behind" that means delegating and coaching the followers from the side. Instead of being the kind of leader as a center to guide the followers throughout the way, future leaders should take a step back to lead from behind and let the followers flourish by themselves. On the other hand, my first goal idea comes from the in class activity that we did, which is " Your leadership style profile". This activity proves that I am lacking of delegating which is exactly an important part of being a collaborative leader. Therefore, build a good relationship with every follower is necessary. The first step I need to do is to build trust with my followers, which is also the most important characteristic that admired leaders should have based on the in-class activity. In order to build trust as a collaborative leader, I should understand every followers personality and make more genuine conversations with them, especially with the followers who are quite and barely give their opinions. I see myself as a "natural leader" in class, which I love to lead the group without appointed. However, because of my responsible personality that makes most of the works was done by myself. Being a collaborative leader, I will learn to practice to let the members distribute the work and I will encourage and help them on the side to make sure everyone is on the right track. As an effective leader, motivation is an essential skill to practice in order to maintain productivity and reach the common goal in organizations. At the beginning of the semester, I find my teammates have less efficiency and being easily disturbed from the external factors that affect us to meet the common goal. The good leader is not the person who has the most power, it should be the one who has the most support and admire. As the basic needs are easy to get, I should work on the psychological needs first by building a good relationship and make the followers feel valuable within the team. Towards reach the higher level of self-actualization needs, I will empower followers to let them grow to meet their self-fulfillment needs. Just like my first goal of being a collaborative leader, that can help me to reach my second goal of being a better motivator.
