Seeing her Granddaughter come to life (Me)

"It is a completely different thing watching and seeing a child come into the world, it is a miracle that it happens and it is incredibly thrilling. You feel like you are so lucky to witness it. Truly is amazing to see someone take their first breath"

Life after her Mother had a stroke

" It was extremely difficult witnessing my mothers situation after her stroke, right hemisphere stroke. She couldn't get out of bed, get dressed, shower, walk; she lost her independence. Knowing that her mind still works and that she can still think made it so difficult to watch happen to someone who you love. I would see my mother going through this but I could do nothing to fix her. I made sure to give her support and keep her smiling everyday. I watched my joyful, active mother change in the blink of an eye. My brother and sister were living in different states at the time from me and my mom so I was alone and responsible for it. "

My grandma felt that this was one of the hardest things she had to go through as a young adult and she tells me numerous times to never take the time with your loved ones for granted.

My grandmas divorce with her past husband

Her divorce with her husband (my grandpa) happened out of no where and she never in a million years expected that to happen. it was truly life changing and very hard on hard on our family. It forced her to fight for herself, quicker and out of the blue. Crazy flip to love your partner then to go to fighting with your partner for the rest of your life. Being forced to mature and do adult things on her own.

Trip to Europe

Went to Auschwitz and Poland and saw where holocaust took place. She thinks it is spectacular to go to tourist places and believes you should do it all when you can. There are all kinds of travel you can do to see things that have happened in this lifetime and things that happened thousands of years ago. This trip was her favorite trip she has been on in her whole life and she talks about it almost every time I see her.

She thinks that everyone who hasn't lived a long time needs to talk to older people because they have experienced so much more than we have. Save us from trouble and be useful for us. Needed to formulate wisdom. People get upset and then the next day will bring you a gift to make you happy and if you wait for it it will happen. People who are mentally healthy or who have been through hard times have good quality advice and a new perspective.

Society changing in Aging

She believes that society has improved but there are still prejudices against and about older people. It is no longer necessary to act old when you are older. Some of the laws to prevent age discrimination in the workplace have improved some job situations.

Bagpipes and Kilts!!

Her father played the piano and he loved the bag pipes. Her father was Scottish so the bag pipes were a very huge part of his childhood. His dad and grandfather wore a Scottish kilt for certain events that my grandma remembers. Her brothers and sisters hated the bagpipes but she loved it because music to her is just so beautiful.

"Aging means you need to be kind to yourself and that time takes a tole, everyone ages differently. You have to face it, not always so pretty. Not always about the way you look, you need to rely on how kind you are, and the way you love. You would be surprised what you can direct in your life"
