Greg Powell

Ian Rosen

Matt Cheesebro
Fran Blouin

Arim Lee

Notes:

1) -Multidisciplinary aspect of program is a great strength. Important to think about what a capstone project may look like for the curriculum.

-Be wary of misuse. Using technology in unanticipated and perhaps nefarious ways. E.g. content problems of Facebook. Part of the curriculum should include critical thinking on this issue.

-Esports deals with more sophisticated interaction between real and virtual worlds than ever before, and curriculum to be sensitive to this.

2) - Esports is paradigm shift in the way people interact online. E.g. how computer programming used to be a hobby. We should position this as about human interaction in a virtual world and about gamification.

- Curious about the distinction between esports and gaming. We see the possibility of using gaming technology to understand history.

- What are we trying to learn from esports or teach? Vocational possibilities -- training people for jobs in an emerging sector. And then there is the academic aspect.

- It's important to have a practical aspect of the program that trains people for jobs in the real world in addition to the academic element.

- It's important to define the various areas where students can expect to work after completing the program.

- How is field going to grow and evolve? Equip students with the training to be able to adapt to fast growing disciplines. Partnership with non-academic community.

3) - Risk of misuse and importance to address ethics as related to esports.

- Think beyond specific vocational aspect of designing video games. Important to gives students of variety of depth of exposure across the program.

- Part of program should include focus on soft skills - social etiquette and ethics.

- Who governs the rules around acceptable behavior? What are the community rules? Incorporating these questions into the curriculum.
