Everyone in the gang loves Pony, and that makes him welcome in the gang, so people trust him. I forgot!(44)” This is when Pony stayed out too late and fell asleep because of daydreaming, and Darry got mad at him. Another event is when Pony convinces himself by dreaming and smoking that Johnny isn’t dead, which is bad for him, and when Pony thinks about how many times Soda has started to tell him something when he is daydreaming. We know he is the protagonist because the story is centered around him. He is a dynamic character because he is always undergoing a change. Do you realize how scarce nice kids are nowadays?” Cherry said. She is saying he is a nice guy to have around. Th is is an example of how Pony comforts people, “He was crying. I held him like Soda had held him the day we found him lying in the lot.” Pony is comforting Johnny after killing a guy for him.
