Readers need to use the illustrations to create a movie within their minds. Being the author does not use many words within the book, students need to seek for clues and make connections throughout the story. During one part of the story, the author displays the little girl returning the baby wolf to the big wolf. The reader needs to make connections and visualize in their minds how the little girl is feeling in that moment. The little girl is most likely feeling nervous to get very close to the big wolf but happy to be able to help the baby wolf get home safely.

The theme throughout the books is loyalty and the value of kindness that is shown by the girl and then returned by the wolf.
