This book uses many different styles and techniques through figurative language. She uses descriptive details, lots of appositives, and similes. I do like them because I feel as though these help with the readers understanding of the book and the characters themselves. She uses appositives to show how a character feels in a certain moment or what their thinking or feeling at the time, rather than just telling us. She shows and doesn’t tell. She uses similes he same way, instead of just telling us that the sky is blue she would say the sky is like the deep blue ocean. Not only does she use descriptive details for the characters but she uses them for every scenario, feelings, settings, decisions, and problems. In my own writing I can use descriptive details to describe everything instead of just stating it. Feelings, thoughts, decisions, scenes, I can use some figurative language to show not tell who, what, why, how. Not just in one scenario but throughout my whole writing. Julie Murphy doesn’t just do this every other page or whatever, its constant, throughout her whole story which makes it more understandable to the reader. If she were to use a  certain style at the beginning of the book and then half way through change to another, that would confuse the readers brain and change the whole reading process. In my reading I will try to keep the same style throughout the whole essay.
