When we performed the original piece, I asked to few audience members some feedback and words about how they experienced, watching "A la maison".
One of them wrote me one day and I wanted to share it with you.

When I was watching Maelle's piece I couldn't help but feel like I was emerged in the piece myself. It was beautiful movement which didn't need big fancy tricks to make it look impressive. It brung a sense of confidence that dance isn't all about the perfect technique, its about how you express yourself whilst dancing, which the choreography was complimented but also the two dancers portrayed it very well.

Lastly, the piece is about Maëlle and her sister. I have an older sister who is my best friend and always there for me. So whilst I was watching, I was thinking about how my sister has been such a big part of my life, who has helped me through everything. I got emotional as it made me think I need to give her more time and appreciation. I also was missing her a lot at this time as it was coming to the end of term and I hadn't seen her for a couple of months."

How does music affect your brains? Emmanuel Bigand one of the greatest specialists in France on the relationship between music and the brain. He is a researcher in cognitive psychology but also a former musician in a classical orchestra.
What he finds incredible with music is its social power to connect us with others. Music is an organization that demands complex things from our brain but at the service of the sensitive. For example, when you listen to music, you make inferences, you reason from what you have heard and you make anticipations about the possible consequences, which is also done when you speak with someone.
and where the sensitive intervenes, it is by playing with this intellectual work. The listener will surprise us, catch us off guard, the effects of suspense create lots of emotional phenomena, phenomena of interest, it's a kind of sound suspense.
Music makes the brain work in a demanding way but always at the service of a warm human relationship which is rich, what is scientifically called warm cognition, that is to say something of affect, which is touching. So this link between cognition and emotion is made immediately.
Singing is one of the first forms of musicality that we will hear. The voice speaks of our emotions, the voice speaks of our deep intimacy, it comes from within. It is a very strong and difficult communication medium to use. It is something incredible and very powerful for our brain.
Only ten years ago, a study shocked everyone is that;

When listening to intensely pleasurable music, such as music that gives you chills, goosebumps, or makes you cry. Its reactions come from an activation of a particular area of the brain which can be called like the rudder of the animal, it is the area of the brain which has the function of telling you: that's good you have to continue to do, ca it is necessary to stop therefore it is really a rudder.
. Musical pleasure originates in the most fundamental part of our cerebral biology and has very strong biochemical impacts. Music can change brain biochemistry and that's amazing.
Everyone thought before this discovery that music was only intellectual.
