The setting of the story is at camp Green Lake. Stanley is at camp green lake and there is no water for 100 miles. Even in shade it is 95 degrees. The camp is not fun like he says it would be. It is a juvenile camp. People at his school would make fun of his weight. Stanley had a choice if he wanted to go to jail or go to Camp Green Lake, he said to the camp.

I think the setting effects Stanley because he is not used to digging holes 5 feet deep and 5 feet long. It is so hot there. He has to get used to it being 95 degrees and getting no water because its going to be like that’s for the next 18 months.

Stanley has to wake up at 4:30 am to start digging and if he finds something good while digging he has to give it to the guards.


Stanley can have heat stroke if he does not have a bottle of because he hast to dig in 95+ degrees in the shade in the whole Has to be 5 feet deep by 5 feet wide.

The setting is affecting Stanley because when he walked out of the bus he saw there was no lake there was not camp or green and it was extremely hot  and it is making his body  temperatures change majorly.

I am empathizing with the main character because if I were in that situation I would be scared too. The main character Stanley is being accused of stealing a famous baseball players shoes. Its a hard time for Stanley and I think that if I were in that situation, it would've been less controlled.

The main character in my book reminds me of my cousin. The main character reminds me of my cousin because one time my cousin got in trouble at school for something he didn't do. That reminded me of my mom. I am empathizing with my charter because there has been a time when my brother made a big mess and i was standing over it when my mom walked in and she though i did it. So i had to clean it up. I have been in that moment where you feel like your voice is not strong enough and what you say will be no use. So then you have to go along with whatever you got wrongly accused of. Stanley got accused of a crime that he did not do and since he is poor he does not have a lawyer to help him stand up for his self. So then he has to go to a camp for bad kids when he did nothing and is a good kid. I’m empathizing with Stanley and the other kids at Camp Green Lake because they are probably annoyed they had to go to a place they didn’t really want to go to this place. I also feel bad that Stanley had to go to Camp Green Lake for a crime he didn’t do.

  • I emphasized with my character Stanley by he must be extremely sad and scared because he was put in a camp we’re bad people go and he didn’t do anything. So I think I kind of feel what he is feeling. On page 24 the author tells the story of how when Stanley found the shoes he didn’t know they were stolen he was just trying to show then to his dad. So he feels probably scared or unknown of what going on when the police pulled him over. So if that happened to me I would feel the same way.

    • The character Stanley connects with me by he is very polite and has good manners, and that is just like my friend Quinn. By  when ever he comes over to my house is very polite and has great manners . Just like on page on page 11 Stanley says thank you to the bus driver so even though his is being framed and taken against his own will he still says thank you to the bus driver.

    2. I am empathizing with my character well. Imagine digging a 5 by 5 feet hole when you are on solid ground. It would take many hours. Also think..... what would it be like if you went to camp and were limited a shower time and limited water. You are also with bad boys that make horrible choices. In the passage I read today, Stanley is independently making choices himself.     Stanley and I connect to each other because people falsely accuse me of doing something that I did not do pretty often and that is what is happening to Stanley in this book. Someone that relates to one of the characters, the consoler is my friend Delaney because they both find the funny out of no were and think of positive out of something unnatural or bad. The consoler  is more positive Delaney is more out of no were she will find something and make a joke out of it.

    2. I have not experienced anything like this but if I was in Stanley’s position I would be nervous, scared ,and tired. I would be tired because it is a long trip to the camp and it’s warm not very comfy area to be in. I would react in a similar way surprised and nervous thinking it something else like a better camp better beds and food. 

    3. We both always come in at wrong times in the area like how he was under the high way were the shoes were at the wrong time, and I relate because I always walk in at a random time when something awkward happens. I also have never been to a summer camp.

And also in the book there is a lot of Stanley, not key words like “me” and “my”.  I also know that this book is in first person because when the book stared it did not say, “my time at camp green lake was very extreme” instead the narrator talked about camp green lake and what it was like there. This story would be different if it was told from Stanley’s perspective because you would get to know what his life would have ben before camp green lake and what it was like at school compared to at home. This would also change how the readers hear the story, when they think of camp green lake Stanley can really explain how he feels and what is would be like for him, not what camp green lakes look, feels and who is there.

            Zero was upset that Stanley would not teach him how to read but, Mr. Sir took Stanley to the Wharton so Zero dig his hole, Stanley had a lot of energy left over so if Zero dig his hole every day/ help he would teach him how to read and write.
          Stanley is very nice and calm and when he said something that X-Ray does not like he get pushed, he lets this happen.
