Setting

For this book the setting was very, very, very important. Since John was an "alien" he had to move around a lot so people wouldn't catch onto his superhuman powers. The setting in this book was in Paradise, Ohio. The setting is important because since the Mogadorians are after John so he has to keep moving from house to house to make sure that the Mogadorians can't find him.Paradise was the longest Henri and John had been in one place, about nine months. Also near the end of the book the setting changes, the Mogadorians create illusions with the beasts, beasts are just what they sound like big, scary monsters.

Character: John

In the book John has several problems, internal and external. The main problems kind of went hand-in-hand. The first problem was that his legacies, superhuman powers, were not coming in when they were supposed to (Internal). The second problem is that throughout the book the Mogadorians were hot on his trail (External). The first one is a problem because after all the Garde's, people like John with alien like powers, legacies come in they're all supposed to fight to regain Lorien, their home planet. The second problem is important because if the Mogadorians find and kill John that will be one less Garde to fight in battle against the Mogadorians. Through these complications I would definitely say that John is dynamic because he does change throughout the book whether it's physically or mentally.

One theme I noticed in the book was it's okay if you're different from the people around you. This became clear after John finally accepted that he wasn't ever going to be like the people always around him. A second theme I say was not to take things for granted. This book made me realize that you should always appreciate the people and things around you. John understood this when a character in the boom he was very close to (Not saying who!) died. John always thought that person would be around for him until he passed away.

On a scale of 1-4, 1 being super easy 4 being super hard, I would rate it a 2/4. For me, it wasn't very challenging except for some new vocabulary. The dialect of the text was modern so easy to see where the characters were coming from. I think that an average 6th grader could read and understand this book.
