He called this meeting to try and get the First and Second Estates to pay taxes. The first two estates didn't want to pay taxes but the Third estate was glad to see this change. Even though the king tried to get this reform through, the first two estates outvoted the Third Estate. They wanted all three estates to have a vote in the government. When they came to the chambers, they found that the first two estates had locked the doors. After that, they went to a tennis court and swore to stay together until they had created a new, fair constitution. They soon found out that the king was throwing a party in his palace. THis enraged them even more because he was wasting their food. They showed up at his doorstep outraged and ready to kill the Queen. They eventually     broke into the castle and killed multiple guards in their attempt to find and kill the QUeen. Ultimately, they never found her but this showed the King and Queen that the Revolution could not be ignored any longer. The Great Fear was a senseless panic that ravaged through France's countryside. The peasants thought that the nobles were hiring criminals to fight them. He feared for the lives of his family and himself. He decided to try and escape to Austria and Marie Antoinette's brother, who ruled Austria. They nearly made it, but they stopped a few miles from the border and some countrymen apprehended him and brought him back to Paris. They put King Louis on trial, and they found him guilty. Then, they let the king go back to his family to say goodbye on the eve of his execution. The next day, they brought him up to the guillotine by a closed carriage, and on January 3, 1793, King Louis XVI was executed by guillotine. Robespierre wanted to kill anyone who he thought opposed the Revolution. He killed nearly 85% of the peasant population. Nobody was safe from Robespierre in this one year hell. He even targeted Enlightenment thinkers and revolutionaries.
