Kindergarten Writers Workshop Rubric needs to include a wider range starting either at 0 or 1. This would allow to us to effectively see where students started and where the ended after a year of instruction.

Under the current writing rubric almost all students receive a 2 in the Fall whether they left their entire blank, scribbled, drew a decipherable picture , or wrote words and /or a picture that actually match.
That's a huge ability range that all falls under a 2 in the Fall. This does not allow us to truly evaluate their growth or our instruction because our expectations automatically rise following instruction.
