I get the appeal of third party and independent candidates, but realistically they rarely get enough votes to win. While I wish our system made it easier for different voices to compete, with things so high stakes and split down the middle, they may accidentally help the side you like least by taking away votes. Historically that's happened before.

As someone who is more independent, I obviously support the fact that we can have independents run, although one will probably never win, and I find it very interesting that an independent can influence the election so much while still not winning. I think people should vote for whoever their views align with and strongly urge voters to not vote for the other side just because you hate/ dislike one candidate, at that point your just a sheep to other herd. If no one aligns with my views I wouldn't vote and I personally think that is how everyone should think but I would love to hear some opinions.

I think the role is to give citizens another choice although they don't have a successful chance of winning right now, especially with how polarized we have become. It's still interesting to see now that independents, more specifically Kenndy, is maintaining his polling at 20 percent. Impressive but not enough to change the outcome of an election.

I think that if people started to vote for what was ideal instead of safe, it could potentially raise polling for independents and maybe create some competition with the other parties.

I think it's very impressive to see how the Independent party can attract votes and maintain higher percentages throughout the race ultimately not winning. I think the third party plays an important role in the race because the Democratic and Republican parties don't always go along with everyone's beliefs. I am disheartened when I hear my peers choose to vote for someone because they are popular among a certain crowd/race or because "Everyone else I know voted for this candidate so I guess I should too." I truly believe that if everyone was educated on voting and what a difference it could truly make the votes would look a lot different. I believe people generally only vote for someone because they are on a certain side and not because of what they stand for and this way of voting is messing up the country.

It's good that the third party's votes are increasing. Even though it will be highly unlikely that a third party will win, it is a change from the usual democratic and republican options. This will impact the 2024 election in a way that raises the question: Is distrust within the nation increasing for both the Democratic and Republican political parties? I believe there is if the third-party political party is gaining more votes than in previous years. I encourage a person to vote for a third-party candidate, especially if their perspectives align more with theirs. It's good to avoid the norm and allow other candidates to take the presidency.

I personally think it's interesting to see an independent so far ahead in the run for presidency. Considering where we are in our country, there is a lot of distrust in the government, and a lot of distrust in Biden and Trump. Because of this distrust, I believe this is why RFK Jr. is gaining popularity. RFK Jr. has expressed his anti-vaccine views and his opinions on focusing less money on our army and fighting wars. Many people who do not trust the government will be more likely to vote for him, instead of Trump or Biden. For anyone who wishes to vote for him, I would say to try to learn what his true intentions are and what actions he plans on taking if he becomes president. Considering how our country has been looking and operating recently, I personally think voting for an independent could possibly be a good thing. Ultimately, it's hard to tell if you made the right decision until that person has been in office long enough to show us who they really are.

After reading the CNN article, I believe the role and impact of the third party is bigger than people realize. Though they may not win, they will likely take a big chunk of votes others haven't accounted for. Taking this chunk of votes will leave the major parties with fewer votes and possibly less than a majority. I find it interesting that this is happening but not surprised. I feel like America and Georgia specifically is such a toss-up when it comes to Trump or Biden so a new candidate is looking like a better choice. I feel like many people are seeing it as a middle ground for the craziness that has happened in the past election. I would most likely ask them what they know about this candidate and get to know why they would vote for him over the others. I would encourage it if it seems that they agree with the policies that he is pushing.

The number of third-party votes is rising, in my opinion. despite the low probability of a third party winning. I thought it was fascinating to read in this brief article how an independent can possibly run a strong campaign for president if they end up with the majority of the votes. In my opinion, there needs to be more independent contenders for public office, so voters won't have to choose between only two political parties each election. In addition, I would advise anyone considering voting for a party other than the Democratic or Republican to confirm that their political beliefs coincide with those of the independents. A lot of individuals often vote for anyone without accomplishing any type of research.

In my opinion, politics as a whole is changing and the values of the voting population is shifting as well. The third party's role in an election is essential as they provide different perspectives and beliefs, which creates chances for a higher voter-turnout. After reading the CNN article I can say that independent candidate's will have more of an impact on 2024. I feel like voting for someone running as neither democratic or republican could improve the government and stepping out of the comfort zone of the two traditional party systems.

After reading this CNN article, I agree that voter support will shift over time. I feel that independent candidate will provide a perspective and values that a lot of voters will align with. They will allow for a shift in the norm and voters views of partisan polarization. I feel strongly that over time there will be a shift that will be recorded in history due to the involvement of independent candidate in politics.

I found the CNN article to be very interesting and definitely think that the independent will play a large role in this election as votes might be pulled away from Democratic and Republican candidates. With that being said, and Independent or in this case RFK Jr. will not win this election simply because of the prior history and lack of resources. I would still tell voters to vote for whoever they want as president regardless of if that is independent because it is their vote.

Considering how partisan we have become and how rather than a heightened interest in the election, it is a disinterest in the current candidates, a third party pulling through in the polls could greatly affect the results. I think this could be a good thing as its broadening the horizons of the two set parties. The "lesser of two evils" idea that has been circulating would be snuffed. In voting for an independent party though, I am undecided (ironically). It all comes down to their policies/ideologies I suppose.

This third-party candidate is doing notably well because of his name, in my opinion. I do not see any third parties making an exceptional rise, just a rare, nameable, third-party candidate during a time of extreme polarization.

I believe that RFK could have the dangerous effect of pulling Biden voters, causing Donald Trump to reclaim his throne. I would tell the voters that this is not an election to waste a vote in. Unless you want Trump back, you must vote for Biden.
