Basically, Nixon's administration was accused of breaking into the Democratic National Committee headquarters in the city's Watergate apartment office complex. However, the scandal involved the cover-up of this burglary. The burglary occurred because some of Nixon's advisers ordered five men to break into the DNC Headquarters and steal sensitive campaign information. Media discovered that one of the men was an ex-CIA officer and a member of the president's reelection committee. Even though Nixon didn't order the break-in, he ordered the cover-up.
