There are ongoing civil wars within Syria ever since 2011. It is between the current Syrian government led by President Bashar al-Assad and both foreign and domestic groups that oppose the Syrian government. This uprising in oppositional groups is inspired by the Arab springs, where uprisings successfully toppled Tunisia’s and Egypt’s governments (Al Jazeera 2018). In response, the authoritarian regime, led by President Bashar al-Assad, killed hundreds of protestors and imprisoned many more. Many rebels have formed groups, such as ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant) and FSA (Free Syrian Army), among many. The war has also been worsened by international intervention, with the USA and Russia being the biggest players. The USA has launched many anti-Assad operations in coalition with ISIL. Russia, in support of the current regime, has also funded and enacted operations in this area. Because of this, the fighting has been going on for more than a decade now. The turmoil created has motivated many Syrians to abandon their homes and move to safer countries.

Many historically significant cities and landmarks, those of which have been abandoned, are the target of the bombing. That compounded with the vast amounts of citizens fleeing Syria means that much of the culture and history is being lost or forgotten.

The large amounts of Syrians leaving Syria means that a lot of Syrian culture is being spread. Also, the relocation of Syrians to non-Muslim countries would promote Islam in more countries.

In temporary refuges, environments are grim. Though it is much safer than Syria, the communities are still plagued with poverty, rape, and disease. This is due to overcrowded populations in isolated conditions and little attention from the government. They can't interact much with the local economy or society.

The United States government is known to provide little assistance to refugees. Additionally, refugees in the United States face a lot of xenophobia. The language and cultural differences are a cost that the family has to deal with. However, Faez al Sharaa can work a job that pays and is steady and is planning to get a higher-education degree. The relative safety of the United States has allowed them to be freer and live a better life.

According to research conducted by Chmura Economics and Analytics, refugees boost the economy by providing human resources and contributing to the economy. Contrary to popular belief, refugees do not hinder the economy by taking away jobs from natives. Additionally, the United States allowing refugees into the country has brought more cultural diversity.

Faez al Sharaa and his family are a part of a small group of people who have made it out of refugee camps and become full members of society. The al Sharaa family were originally heading towards Sweden, and then Finland, before finally being granted entry into the United States. These countries all have a higher quality of life than Jordan and Syria, and allow these refugees to live a better life, one where they don't have to fear for their lives every day. In many of these countries, the refugees receive government benefits.
