I have had my fair share of troubles getting used to the class and such, but it’s working out. From foundation to intermediate to advanced, I’d say I’m still getting the hang of it now, but I’m getting my skills up. I was mainly influenced by myself to go design since I came to appreciate art and the talent for it. The thing I want to say as a designer is to have fun with what you create. I want someone to have fun throughout their process of creating something, even if it’s hard. Even if there isn’t a set style you’re going for, you can still make it work. I don’t have a set style and try my best with whatever idea comes to mind. I do get a lot of inspiration from a lot of people, artists online, and friends that do a lot of art themselves. It’s interesting to look at art and see a person’s passion for it. Anything can be art and a simple design can have meaning. At a young age, I had no interest in art or designing things up until 7th to 8th grade, even then I wasn’t big on it. Only when I got into high school did I explore it more and graphic design has helped me with that. I may not be the best worker and lack quite a bit, but I’m enjoying myself with that work I’ve done so far. I feel like design is a skill as well as a hobby/talent, it’s something that can develop over time.
 
Starting a new piece of artwork/design is difficult since you’ve got to think of what you want to do, what design you want to go for, and what you want it to focus on. I try my best to stay focused and have my attention be on my work. It’s difficult to know when the design is finished, but if you feel satisfied with what you’ve created. I think that’s when you know that a piece of design is finished.

 A challenge that can come up in design is artist’s block and a lack of inspiration or motivation. Maybe you have an idea, but you aren’t sure how to present it in the form of design. I would say that it is difficult to work over these obstacles since they can get in the way of thinking about how to go about the work. Trying to find motivation and figure out what to do, that’s all I can really do to work through those issues. 

 Even though graphic design isn’t what I plan to do in college, I might take it as a minor rather than a major. I still love design and it really helps you appreciate all the art that is around you. Since taking graphic design, just going around town and seeing things in walls and such, there is design in it all. I’m not sure how to explain how design affected my life, but it’s helped me look into art more than I have before.

I never truly had an idea on what inspiration struck me to want to pursue art and designing. The more I think about it, the more I notice that most of my inspiration comes from video games and shows. I started getting invested in character design and I liked to make clothing designs that you wouldn’t see in the real world. There is a much larger selection of ideas to work from.

Making characters started to be important to me since I also do some free writing purely for fun and the characters I make go into that. Simply drawing and designing characters is just fun to me as well. It’s interesting to pick out and design what these characters would wear and how they will look. Again, I get most of my inspiration from shows and video games since those go beyond the standards of the real world.

There are so many shows and games that have inspired me, but “Love Live!” and “Hypnosis Mic” are ones that stand out to me. Those are both series as well as rhythm games that I would say I’m a fan of. The characters are the most important part of it, their designs and looks are distinct that help you remember them too. Just the way that a character looks can give me ideas on what I could create, hence my inspiration.

For a while, I’ve had questions that run through my mind throughout the time I started taking graphic design. Why am I taking the class in the first place? Why focus on design? In all honesty, I only chose to take the class because it seemed fun to me and it is. It helped me expand my imagination and how I can design different things. As for the reason why I decided to pursue design was to let out my creativity. Even if it’s not what I might do in the future, the experience is good enough for me and what I learned would stay with me. Design is just really interesting as you can express yourself and so many things just by what you make. You can pass on a message just from what you design and that is an interesting concept.
