Judged from where we start, harnessing the dumb power of the hive mind will takes us much further than we can dream. Judged from where we end up, the hive mind is not enough; we need top-down design.

 
 
The hive mind, also known as groupthink, is when a person has a strong tendency to prefer group decisions. If a person has a hive mind, they may feel infallible and morally right when they are part of a group. They may also be unable to make decisions independently.
The hive mind should be thought of as a tool. Empowering the collective does not empower the individual.
It is an example of the special intelligence that the collective provides. It is this unique quality that has been called "the wisdom of the crowd."

Crowdsourcing is the practice of turning to a body of people to obtain needed knowledge, goods or services. The term crowdsourcing is a combination of crowds and outsourcing and was coined in 2006 by Wired magazine author Jeff Howe in his article "The Rise of Crowdsourcing."


Outsourcing

Outsourcing is the business practice of hiring a party outside a company to perform services or create goods that were traditionally performed in-house by the company's own employees and staff. 

Outsourcing is when I hire someone to perform a service and they do it and that's the end of the relationship. The reason Wikipedia has not yet been contaminated by various other things is because of these people who are constantly patrolling to maintain its accuracy
