From birth to about two years old, babies do not obtain the concept of object permanence. Object permanence is used to describe a child's ability to know that objects still exist even when the objects are not in sight anymore. For example, if a mother plays peek-a-boo with her 10 month old child, every time she covers her face the child thinks that she has dissapeared, but when she uncovers her face, the child recognizes the mothers face and thinks that she has reappeared.

Stage 3: Concrete Operational Stage.

From seven to eleven years old, the concrete operational stage is a major turning point in a child's cognitive development. At this point a child is able to think logically. For example, in the video a woman ask the child if the two glasses in front of her were the same amount and the child's answer was yes. The woman then continued to poor one glass of juice into a taller and thinner glass and asked her the same question. The child's answer was that the glasses are still the same. Just because the juice looks taller in the thinner glass does not mean that it has a larger amount.
