As we wander about the universe we tend to form habits about following particular writers and other creatives.

PODCAST (Ear Hustle)

For some reason I've always been fascinated by jail-based stories. Fear of the long arm of the law finally catching up with me perhaps? This is the first podcast ever to be created and produced inside of a jail (California's Saint Quentin State Prison). The storytelling and editing are top-notch. It was even nominated for a Pulitzer Prize! You could give it a try with the very first episode, 'Cellies'. Some of the topics the podcast touches on can be a little upsetting but these can easily be avoided since there are many episodes with much more light-hearted subject matter.

I always am interested to read what Barney Ronay has to say...funny, interesting, he generally gets round to reporting the football match in the end but on the way he also demonstrates some great creative journalistic flair tackling a variety of topics.

I'm always impressed when people combine two seemingly very different skills. Mona Chalabi is a data journalist, i.e. an economist AND creative producer of creative and entertaining illustrations. Blimey!

This is the grandaddy of the podcastverse - multi-award winning and consistently great. These episodes make a tram-ride more enjoyable but English buffs can also take note of how carefully each episode is created - from the 3-part structure (like a classical play) to every detail of the storytelling.
