A scene that showed hope was where Desmond saves the 75 wounded men. It gives the audience hope because we are seeing Desmond become the hero as he keeps on finding and rescuing men, especially after the audience has seen the traumatic and horrific war scenes and death. Each long shot? of the ridge and each soldier we see being lowered down, the director makes us feel hope that the soldiers will be saved, even when other soldiers yet to be saved themselves might not have the hope they will be rescued.

A scene that showed hope or despair was the scene when Desmond stayed up on the ridge and saves all the injured soldiers unable to get down themselves. This shows hope because all the injures soldiers up on the ridge probably have no hope that they are gonna live but when Desmond approaches each injured man they will all feel a bit of hope that they might make it out. Close ups of the injured soldiers faces shows the emotion in their face. The director used hope in this scene to make the audience feel hopeful for the soldiers and to create tension.

what happens is Desmond helps rescue 75 - 100 wounded men down hacksaw ridge in the space of a couple hours, what gave Desmond the hope he needed is that every time he went to get another solider he said to God "Please just one more". He managed to save 75 - 100 wounded men. The director wanted everyone to feel the hope Desmond felt whilst helping all those men, so they made a intense moment were the music was playing and he was struggling but carrying on

A scene that showed hope or despair was the scene when Desmond is still up on the hacksaw ridge saving all the injured soldiers that probably thought they did have a chance to get back down but Desmond gave them hope. He saved 75-100 lives while risking his own by saving them. After every life he saved he asked god to help him one more time. Desmond put his trust in god and worked though the night to save as many soldiers as he could. The director wanted the audience to feel hope for Desmond and all the injured people who thought they had no chance.

A scene where a clear sense of despair appears when Desmond is locked away in the cell after being denied a leave pass. Colonel sangston denies Desmond a leave pass because he "did not complete his full training" by not participating in the rifle training. Desmond was about to get married to Dorothy that afternoon, but because he was denied a leave pass, he spent the remaining time of the day in a cell, frustrated and angered. This shows us despair because he is trapped, unable to get out, unable to get married and feeling contained and controlled.
The director wanted us as an audience to feel this way because it foreshadows the opposite (positive) events that will happen, because as the protagonist, his main obstacle was for his own comrades to trust and work alongside him.

One scene where the director creates a strong sense of hope is when Desmond Doss saved the injured soldiers, the way the scene is set out shows us that no matter what, he would keep going and hopefully would save everyone he could... the point of hope was drilled into us as it quickly showed the amount of people he was saving within the space of only a few hours... he was able to prey for just 'one more' each time giving us this hope that he would be saving one more.

A scene which showed hope and despair by the director is the scene in courtroom. In this scene, Desmond is on trial for not complying with his superiors (refusing to use a weapon). This creates a dire situation because if Desmond loses the trial he will be facing court martial and sentenced to prison for the duration of the war, making it so that he cannot serve. This scene can also shows hope as Tom shows up to the trial with a letter that states Desmond has the right as a conscientious objector to refuse to carry a weapon, which helped Desmond avoid the charges
