What's going to happen to the narrator in an abandoned alley? This quote uses foreshadowing as an element of fiction and I guess a little suspense too. I think that this quote really shows who Baba is, an independent person who does what he wants. The element of fiction I see here is character. Baba is a very bold character who can be a little cold hearted and emotionally distant at the time. This quote shows who he is as a character. It shows that he knows he should say something and stand up for the boy he grew up with, but he still is not able to stand up for himself much less another person. I think he has a big heart and wants to help and stand up for himself, but he just doesn't have the confidence. When he's about to have to talk to Assef, Hassan's rapist from when the boys were young. Before the meeting, Amir is a having a person vs. self conflict. He is nervous to see this man again and is losing confidence rapidly.

In the story Baba obviously faces some person vs. person conflict, but also person vs. self because Amir does not act how Baba wants. Baba wants Amir to be perfect and defend himself, but Amir has no confidence and gets picked on. Amir is always feeling like he's a disappointment to his father because of this and I think we see a lot of this in real life. After not speaking or enjoying anything while living with Amir and his wife, Sohrab finally let out a bit of a smile while flying a kite with Amir. I love this ending, because Amir is doing the same he did with Hasaan when they were young but Sohrab be safe and protected.
