It has many cultures contained within and is one of the richest countries in Europe with respect to its fashion, museums and art. It's capital city, Paris, boasts some of the finest art museums in the world, not to mention the famous Notre Dame cathedral which some may remember was ravaged by fire two years ago.

Approximately 45% of the French population consider themselves to be Christian is some way. with the majority of them following Catholicism. Given it's large immigrant population there are many smaller groups that practice Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Sikhism and Buddhism amongst others.
However, according to my research, whilst people are free to worship, it is discouraged to openly show any signs of religious following, for example of you wear a cross, you should keep it hidden under your shirt.

Whilst many people associate snails and frogs legs as being typical French cuisine, it is actually uncommon to to see them on the everyday table. The French do happen to love baguettes, their local cheeses and wines which vary by region. Each region will have their own variety of wine and cheese and will proudly announce it to any and all visitors.

The French don't usually have a large sit down breakfast like the Americans do, preferring instead to grab a pastry on their way to work.
Lunch is the biggest meal of the day and stores usually close between 12pm and 2pm to allow for the lunch break. The only places remaining open are restaurants but they will close shortly after 2pm.

Dinner is served much later usually from 7pm onwards, and is usually a much lighter fare, such as crepes, salads, crackers, cheese and wine. Again, restaurants will open starting at 7pm and will close at midnight.

Thereby, having school run later in the day makes it easier for parents to be working as then both parent and student have a schedule convenient to both and cuts down on the need for daycares and babysitters.
In addition, you will very few people receiving state welfare due to the fact that France makes it much easier for both parents to work.
