Lave and Wenger helped many companies and schools understand the significance of learning in social groups, and encouraged schools to teach their students learn to think like professionals.

They impacted learning by differentiating the social learning, with situated learning and communities in practice.

They helped separate the ideas of learning from being within a community, and learning directly through apprenticeship.

They highlighted the significance of an apprenticeship while keeping the importance of a community

One way could be putting students into partners and having them learn off each other

(One kid is really good at math and is tutoring the other kid who struggles with math or vice versa)

They help to understand learning being done outside of the classroom

Lave focuses on situational learning, Wenger focuses on communities of practice, and both emphasize learning is a group activity.

You can apply it by grouping students with similar skills or interests to work together.This builds relationships and opens the door to different perspectives.

Lave can be used in like private lessons where I get more of that 1 on 1 interaction with the students

I can put my students into groups where they all have things in common, but also put them in groups where there is a difference. Being able to switch between the two will help them grow as a community.

Both involve learning off of others and differ in sizes (of groups vs one on one)

When a group of students are excelling at a certain topic, they could directly help a student at the back of the class to get them caught up.

I can create multiple ways for learning to happen, not just by lecture. I can bring in parents to teach something they are ‘masters’ in to show that there are different ways that we can learn.
