I couldn't figure out how to solve this algebraically. I'm not totally sure how to quantify this as an equation to graph, so I can't do that either. How do I translate this world problem into algebra? I don't understand. In any event, with a little bit of trial and error, I found that 3 sides of 100 ft of fence to form a square would give the maximum area. I don't know why; I don't even know if that's true, but it's what I got. Here's an extremely rough visualization of what I came up with.
